As I am a decade late to perform this question whilst I’m not even a North American here (especially with myself being a member of this website since 2017), therby in the regard of this question: I profoundly wonder that the ,Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC),, which is currently owned by ,Nissan, since it took over the former in 2016, has been already facing financial troubles for not just since it was established in 1970 (one year before ,Chrysler, of the USA took over ,Mitsubishi,), but also due to the impact of Japan’s economy suffering from the so-called “,Lost Decade,” between the 1980s and 1990s. In addition, its love-hate relationship with ,Chrysler, was not one of the reasons that harmed Mitsubishi, but also with the latter’s attempt to do a hostile ,acquisition, of ,Honda,—to which it even makes ,bland,-looking yet unusually reliable cars—between 1992 and 1993. With ,Nobuhiko Kawamoto,, ,Honda,’s ,chief executive officer (CEO), from 1990 to 1998, enforced the company (Honda) to terminate its participation in ,Formula One (F1),—after ,1992,—in order to reject an opportunity to merge with Mitsubishi ,whilst, it was even one of Japan’s biggest car manufacturers that eventually led to the development of the ,Lancer Evolution, ,sports, ,saloon,. In the case of ,Nissan,’s bid of taking over Mitsubishi in 2016, this was not the time that the former have approached the latter just for the sake of the ,Southeast Asian market, (where Mitsubishi is a deeply significant automotive brand), but also in the 1980s meant that Nissan’s ,Jatco (Japan Automatic Transmission Company), division supplied its ,4N71 automatic, to Mitsubishi’s profoundly unpopular (not well-known) ,Starion, sports car that was also rebadged as the “Chrysler Conquest”. Following that scenario, in 2001, Mitsubishi Motors accepted its agreement to merge its transmission department with Nissan’s Jatco unit. Whereas between 2003 and 2005, Mitsubishi decided to supply its ,city cars, to Nissan in the Japanese domestic market (JDM) — one of the outcomes: ,Mitsubishi’s eK, (city car) was rebadged as the “,Nissan Otti,” (7 June 2005 to 6-28 June 2013). Meanwhile, in early 2016, Mitsubishi and Nissan in Japan were involved in a ,scandal relating to fuel economy, that immediately led the former to merge with the latter — especially with Nissan already doing research and developmen (R&D) in ,electric vehicles (EVs),. Subsequently, while ,Carlos Ghosn,—whose life started from being an employee of ,Michelin, to ,Renault,’s Brazilian branch—became Mitsubishi’s chairman following the merger with Nissan in 2016, he therefore later got arrested two years after whilst leading to a ,series of dramas, (not to be confused with either ,J, or ,K-drama, anyway). With ,Renault,’s already-struggling 22-years old ,alliance, with Nissan might be on the verge of filing for divorce in the similar fashion to the ,passing, of ,Prince Phillip,, a number of automotive ,consortia, I wonder of would be falling in line to form a rescue and ,acquisition, of Nissan and its Mitsubishi junior partner alone from Renault — one of these I deeply believe would be the ,Hyundai Motor Group, (,HM,G, to which its early life had been licencing ,Mitsubishi powertrains, and cars for ,use,). So therefore, the idea of Nissan and Mitsubishi alone replacing Renault with the Hyundai-,Kia, Automotive Group (HKAG) as the first two’s partner… But however, not only Hyundai (Motor Group) might be considered as the possible replacement to Renault as Nissan’s and Mitsubishi’s master, but also, the ,Softbank Group,—to which it sold ,Boston Dynamics, to ,HMG (Hyundai), last year—would also be another company that might replace Renault as one of the owners of Nissan and Mitsubishi (especially for one thing that Sofbank is also one of Japan’s second-largest publicly traded company in Japan). Perhaps, if Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors alone would have traded Renault for Hyundai (Motor Group) and Softbank as the first two’s owners, then in turn both Japanese car manufacturers (Nissan and Mitsubishi) alone would end up benefiting from investments courtesy of Hyundai and Softbank whilst HMG (Hyundai) would benefit from Nissan’s ,technological, ,components, and ,body platforms, (especially with the ,Korean wave, already booming within Japan in deep). Maybe, in conclusion, if one who would buy a Nissan and Mitsubishi car whilst two of them are under Hyundai’s ownership, then the ,acquisitor, in turn would be an ,Israeli, and trade ,the, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and BMW car he/she might purchase in exchange for a Nissan and Mitsubishi vehicle being commissioned under the Hyundai Motor Group — surprisingly Nissan, Hyundai/Kia (H/K), and Mitsubishi would rather boost their sales potentials in Israel especially with the last two being deeply popular in that market (Nissan on the other hand only arrived in the [small] Israeli market circa 1990s therefore as the likes of my “buddy” here ,Jim Policke, might see this though). And that is all for today, so I will just reflect this with links and photos whatsoever… Kia to remove the Stinger by Q2 next year - Carscoops 2022 Nissan Note Aura Nismo has bold looks and real downforce - Carscoops Nissan to temporarily shut Tennessee plant following outbreak at chip supplier - Carscoops
