รีวิว Q&A yokohama tyre review

What are the best tires for a Hyundai Verna CRDi 1.6 SX, 2013 model?

I was in the same boat as you one month back. I have a 2015 4s verna and one of the tyres burst due to irresponsible driving. I had the stock bridgestone b250 and done just 17000 km on them. I had gone through so many sites indian and international too, so many tyres. My stock tyre size is 195/55 r16, and i wanted to upsize to 205/55 r16. The options i selected are Hankook ventus v12 k110 evo Just loved the tread design, wet braking is awesome, its a uni directional tyre, dry braking is not good. So did not go for it Yokohama A drive R1 When i browsed on amazon the tyre was available on sale, but local yokohama dealers all said that the tyre was discontinued by the company because of the lot of noise it was generating. Again wet braking is good, dry braking is better than hankook, but unidirectional tyre. Yokohama S drive Again a uni directional tyre, but read a lot of horror stories on teambhp and other websites about sidewall bulges and bursts with yokohama s drive. It apparently is poor in both wet and dry braking. Aquaplaning is a possibility with these tyres. Too bad the tread design looks awesome. Yokohama Advan Sport This tyre was shown to me by the local dealer, Ashoka tyres, minister road, hyderabad. Its MRP is around 10000 but it was on sale and was selling for 6500. Its the oem factory tyre on toyota corolla and camry. It was a good deal but the tyre is really really hard. And tyre noise is unbearable according to tyrereviews UK. Dry and wet braking both are decent. Pirelli p7 cinturato Oem tyre on Audi a4, a5 superb and some other high end cars. Did not find anytjing good or anything bad with these tyres retailing for aroung 6000 per tyre. Dry braking wet braking are both good. But tread design is not appealing, so did not buy this. Continental max contact mc5 This tyre can be compared to Michelin primacy 3st in terms of silence with no road noise. The pattern of the is tyre is assymetric, inner half of the tyre is concentrated on comfort ride, outer half is more sports oriented. It is a soft compound tyre which should be used very carefully. Dry braking and wet braking are excellent. 90 percent rating on tyre reviews UK. Michelin primacy 3st This is the king of all soft compound tyres that are available in India. The most silent with virtually no road noise, you can only hear engine hum. Being a soft compound dry braking and wet braking both are excellent, but this is costlier ₹500 rupees more than continental max contact mc5 at ₹9000 and also the tread pattern is too bland for my liking. So did not buy. Bridgestone potenza MY01 A uni directional tyre very costly series from bridgestone. This is a noise bomb. This tyre makes so much noise that you would want to take a knife and slash it. Retails for around ₹11000 per tyre. Bridgestone Potenza MY02 The tread pattern on this tyre looks the most sexiest of all. The lightening bolt kind of pattern surely will increase the overall appeal. But having a good pattern does not always translate into having good performance. As its older siblimg my01, this tyre is also a noise bomb. Retails at ₹11000. Finally out of all the tyre Continental max contact MC5 stood out for me. Engineered in Germany attracted me a lot. So got these tyres. Costed ₹8500 per tyre. Bought 4 tyres of 205/55r16 and the stepney is the same bridgestone 195/55r16 Completely satisfied with the tyres. Virtually no noice, silence can be compared to primacy 3st. Awesome dry and wet braking. During panic braking also i never felt abs pulsate. I exchanged my old Bridgestone b250 tyre at the shop itself but i got a very bad price. I had only 3 tyres considering 1 tyre burst, the store manager just gave me ₹500 per tyre. They were just 17000 km old but looked like they have been raped. So i would finally suggest you to get conti or michelin if ride comfort is the main criteria. If sports handling is the main criteria any of the unidirectional tyres will work. Happy tyre shopping.

Which is the best car tyre in India?

For Indian consumers, Michelin are better if you drive on good roads.. However, let me also share with you my experience review of most of tyre brands available in India.. I have ridden on Michelin, Bridgestone, Yokohama, apollo, JK, and MRF Comparing to JK and MRF, i will prefer amazer 4G life tyres Reason: i am a rash driver and i never felt out of confidence on 185/70/14 4G life. If you do not have budget for Michelin or Yoko, Amazer 4G life is awesome choice. It offers you 70% comfort of Michelin and is 10 times durable than Michelin. I got many punctures on my Michelin, few on yoko, but zero on 4G life Whenever i have to go out of city (slight off-road) i prefer my car with 4G life 4G life is like fit it and forget it tyres. 100% durable and trust worthy. If you buy Michelin, you will have to take care of them, choose roads carefully. But if you have 4G life.. just enter any terrain.. go to jungle even.. you will come out without punctures. Don't worry about ride and handling, its best Indian brand tyres available. It offers you 70% of everything offered by premium brands. But if you drive on good roads, prefer Michelin If you want premiumness of Michelin and reliability of amazer 4G, buy Yokohama earth 1 If yoko are not available, buy Bridgestone 290 Hope i was able to help..

I need to change my car tyres. Which should I opt for, Bridgestone, Michelin, or MRF, and why?

I have seen that Indians car enthusiasts are not very keen on reviewing tyres. There are not much answers available on Quora and almost no specific videos on Youtube. Car blog websites have very few threads but they are very old and not much helpful. Therefore, i had to learn the hard way. Went to many tyre dealers, learned from foreign blogs. Finally, had to loosen my pocket to actually install those tyres to understand it myself. After my knowledge gaining sessions from foreigner channels, tech websites, dealer discussions, service center discussions, discussions with friends and family, discussions with office colleagues, and checking tyres of all my neighbors and in parking lots. I shortlisted the following tyres: Michelin, Bridgestone, Yokohama, Apollo to spend my money on. I have three cars and i have already experienced JK, Apollo, and MRF Now coming back to your question, Choose Michelin, if your budget allows. It is the best one available. You must know that Michelin is the inventor of radial tyres. Therefore, no one understands radial tyres better than Michelin. It has everything you are looking for. There is only one condition where you should not buy Michelin, if you drive offroad or in areas where tyres easily get punctured or bruises. Michelin tyres can be easily punctured. So be aware. But in city and highway driving they are the best. If you want Michelin energy XM2 performance but do not want to get punctured, buy ,Yokohama Earth 1. ,IF you want even stronger tyres to fit it and forget it, buy ,apollo amazer life 4g tyres., They are best tyres that are puncture resistant and still give you performance and comfort. Buy ,Bridgestone 290, if you want good handling and high speeds. These are better options than ,MRF. First preference should be Michelin, then Yokohama, then Bridgestone, then Apollo, then MRF

Which brand car tyres I should use for Swift Dzire? My car has clocked 45k in 4 years.

Story was different with amazer 3G 165/80/14 tyres. But 3G tyres are not sold in market now so lets forget them. If you do not have budget for Michelin or Yoko, Amazer 4G life is awesome choice. Size was 185/70/14 Hope i was able to help..

Which tire brand do you prefer: Bridgestone, Michelin, Continental, Dunlop or Yokohama?

My answer is for Indian users only.. I have not driven on Dunlop and continental. But i got reviews from friends about continental. No idea about dunlop I have also ridden Michelin, Bridgestone, Yokohama, JK, and MRF Comparing to JK and MRF, i will prefer amazer 4G life tyres Reason: i am a rash driver and i never felt out of confidence on Apollo If you do not have budget for Michelin or Yoko, Amazer 4G life is awesome choice. Why are Michelin tires considered better than others? And are the Michelin tires at Costco the same as the ones at a regular tire shop?

I would doubt the efficacy of this statement - I do not believe Michelin is really as “better” as being portrayed here. A technologically superior process, as outlined in one of the answers, does not - ispo facto- translate into a better tyre. Case in point- American cars usually have an edge, technologically, over their Japanese counterparts, but whose cars are more reliable? Before I go on, let me tell you what I consider important in tyres- superior grip- wet or dry, low NVH and the least radial drag. I have experimented with Michelin, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Yokohama and Pirelli. My worst experience has been with a Michelin, and the best with Yokohama. Of course driving conditions matter- but the Yoko’s outperformed the others in almost all conditions. The first set of Michelin’s I got were from Costco, for a 2017 Honda Accord. After installation, I had to get an alignment done twice within 2 weeks - the Michelin’s have excessive radial drag and the car would hardly keep straight. Even with Honda Lane watch, the car would continuously be steering to keep it in its lane- I.e. the lane watch had to work overtime to keep the car on course. The OEM Goodyear’s did a better job there. And for grip levels, yes, the Michelin is slightly better, but not so much better that it could warrant replacing the OEM Goodyear’s after merely 6000 miles. I had read a lot of reviews about Michelin’s Premier A/S and they were consistently rated better than the Yokohama. Unfortunately, I strongly believe these reviews are ‘influenced’ because the Yokohama actually outperform the Michelin, from my previous experience. Comparative reviews are the most misleading because their results are often skewed towards the highest bidder. On another car, I have the Yokohama S-Drives, and I seriously don’t believe a Michelin can match that level of grip offered by the Yokos. Of course, I’m comparing different sets of tyres here, but the point is- Nope, Michelin’s are not the best of the lot. It always depends on what your driving conditions are, what attribute you prioritise in a tyre and how much tyre can you afford. I’m actually waiting for my current Michelin’s to wear out fast so I can switch to something more reliable. Yokos- of course. Just last month I had an accident, and I wished I would not have opted for the Michelin’s in the first place. Oh, and the tyres I got from Costco, were returned. I was foolish enough to select the same set of tyres- the Michelin’s, this time from my Honda dealer; I assumed that the set I got form Costco were defective. Notwithstanding, the car still goes out of alignment within a week of having a meticulous alignment done but that is Honda’s problem now. And the car still has a hard time sticking to its lane despite the Honda Lane Watch. This feature in a Honda is actually outstanding- at upto 70 miles an hour, the car can actually negotiate a reasonable curve without requiring any steering input from the driver, but since the Michelin’s came on, I can’t trust this one outstanding feature my car came with. I have been switching tyres on my car(s) for over 25 years, each time with a lot of thought and research into which tyre would best work for my driving style and the kind of car I own. Yoko’s and Pirelli’s have always won the debate; the Michelin’s were always in consideration; But so were Bridgestone’s and Goodyear’s.

How do the Yokohama Earth-1 tires compare to Michelin Energy XM-2?

For Indian consumers, Michelin are better if you drive on good roads.. Yoko if you are afraid of punctures and drive in remote areas. However, let me give you my experience review of most of tyre brands i have used and are available in India.. I have ridden on Michelin, Bridgestone, Yokohama, apollo, JK, and MRF Comparing to JK and MRF, i will prefer amazer 4G life tyres Reason: i am a rash driver and i never felt out of confidence on 185/70/14 4G life. How would Yokohama tyres be on a Swift VDi?

The reason behind Earth 1 is that they are the only one worth considering in Yoko. Who should consider Yoko Earth 1? Those who want premium tyres Those who drive out of city as well Those who drive on bad roads Those who drive on high speeds Those who want tires that make less noise Those who want puncture resistant tyres Those who drive harshly Those who want stable car during high cornering If you have any requirement from above, Yoko are best suited for you..
