Car model design doesn’t have the same limitations and slow evolution of technology. Why do old car models have bad designs? For example, why couldn't someone just draw the 2017 Honda Civic 15 years ago?

Simply they don’t. Aerodynamic drag is fundamental to a cars performance and economy. But modern cars can’t hold a candle to the cars designed in the late 1980’s when auto makers first started using wind tunnels. 7.04 sq ft 0.654 m2 1991 Honda Civic EX 7.34 sq ft 0.682 m2 2001 Honda Civic Honda are claiming that the latest Civic is 12% better than the previous version but European hatchback was 62.6″ high and 69.7″ wide, US versions were 56.5″ high and 69.1″ wide, the new model sedan is 55.7″ high and 70.8″ wide. It’s easy to claim you have cut drag area by 12% when you chop 7″ (11%) out of the height. Automobile drag coefficient - Wikipedia Remove the concept cars and other unobtainable cars from the list and this is the top 20 worlds most aerodynamic cars, 3/4 of them are 2 seater. None are what could be considered a full 4 seat. The 2 cars from the 60–70’s that are on this list will cost you £1,000,000. 3.00 sq ft 0.279 m2 2011 Volkswagen XL1 5.10 sq ft 0.474 m2 1999 Honda Insight 5.40 sq ft 0.502 m2 1989 Opel Calibra (8 valve) 5.58 sq ft 0.518 m2 1993 Mazda RX-7 FD (base model) 5.70 sq ft 0.530 m2 1985 Subaru Alcyone/XT/Vortex 5.71 sq ft 0.530 m2 1990 Honda CR-X Si 5.74 sq ft 0.533 m2 2002 Acura NSX 5.76 sq ft 0.535 m2 1968 Toyota 2000GT 5.80 sq ft 0.539 m2 1986 Toyota MR2 5.81 sq ft 0.540 m2 1989 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX 5.86 sq ft 0.544 m2 2001 Audi A2 1.2 TDI 3L 5.88 sq ft 0.546 m2 1989 Nissan 240SX / 200SX / 180SX 5.90 sq ft 0.548 m2 2015 BMW i8 5.92 sq ft 0.550 m2 1994 Porsche 911 Speedster 5.95 sq ft 0.553 m2 1990 Mazda RX7 5.96 sq ft 0.554 m2 1993 Mazda RX-7 FD R1(R2) 6.00 sq ft 0.557 m2 1992 Subaru SVX 6.00 sq ft 0.557 m2 1970 Lamborghini Miura 6.08 sq ft 0.565 m2 2008 Nissan GTR 6.08 sq ft 0.565 m2 1989 Geo Metro

Health Insurance (Prescription insurance denied) Why? Bad title for this question I know. I have never really had to go to the doctor for anything, ANYTHING. Recently I went to go see one because my energy level has been horrible, and I am always fatigued. After seeing the doctor, and getting lab work done, I had spent almost a $1000 dollars. But still, I’m okay with that, if its like one visit every six months or so, so what. Anyways, they found my Testosterone levels to be really really low. So they put me on a medication called androgel. Let me tell you, I can only get 15 days worth of this medication at a time, but every time I go to Walgreens to get a refill, I spend hundreds. Tonight when I picked it up it cost me $268.41. I called everywhere to see about health insurance, even though I only need help with prescriptions. I dont know what to do. I dont need all out full fledge health insurance. But apparently if I tried to get it anyway, I would be denied due to a pre-existing condition ((WTF))!! Apparently the only people who can qualify for health insurance are those who dont need it to begin with. And those who need it are denied because of a pre-existing condition. They are no programs that help with prescriptions that I know of, that dont require tons and tons of paperwork, audits, background investigations, and appointment after appointment. I am really upset and am lost with regard to getting the medication my doctor says I need, reduced in price. I cant afford almost $600 a month. But if even if I try to get health care, i will be denied. Could someone please help me out : ) Thanks for checking out my question I dont have health insurance because I never needed it. Would you rather drive an automatic or manual vehicle and why?

My first experience with a manual transmission was being taught (or whatever you call it) by my father in a black ’78 Plymouth Horizon. Let’s just say, I didn’t get it. Next, stationed in Panama, working for Uncle Sam, I decided to teach myself to drive one of those government issued 6|8 passenger panel vans with the stick in the column. Took less than 1/2 hour to figure it out (thanks to my dad perhaps). Driving that van back and forth between “Casa Del Loco”, Corozal, Panama and Ft. Clayton was absolute fun. My favorite part was aggressively down shifting; which is something I don’t advise; but I was 18 and it was a government owned vehicle (bad combination)… After going home on leave (vacation) one Christmas, I convinced my father to buy a white 1980 Mazda RX7 - manual. I enjoyed driving that car while at home so I decided to buy it from him and had it shipped to my next duty station in San Francisco (i.e., Presidio of San Francisco) . There I drove it for a short time until the flywheel’s teeth were broken so badly broken that I had to start it by rolling it and popping the clutch. I also remember the gears grinding from time to time. Later I purchased a new inexpensive economical 5 speed, without AC; which I drove all over San Francisco and the East Bay. I had no problem holding that car at stops signs at the top of some of those SF hills. But from time to time I would accidentally burn the clutch; which has a nice smell - if you know what I mean. I left the military and moved outside of San Francisco and decided to get a car with AC. I chose a mid size car that was automatic; thinking that I needed to be sure my wife would drive it also. Fast forward some 21+ years and several automatic vehicles later. I began daydreaming about buying a cheap 5 speed “something” just for the feel of the manual transmission. My boss had a nice little VW Rabbit Mk5 (petro) and one day I said, “Hey, if you ever want to sell that car let me know!” A couple of years passed when the opportunity came to buy it. So I test drove it, etc. I was able to drive the car it with only one close call stall; not bad, not bad. But I did not take it onto the highway - for some sub conscience reason. I later agreed to buy it Then it hit me, I would have to drive this car home and I haven’t driven a manual transmission in real traffic in over 22 years. I was nervous; really nervous. I proceeded to watch 40+ hours of YouTube videos on driving a manual transmission. I learned a lot of new stuff; e.g., what not to do, no hard downshifting, no holding the car on a hill, no holding the clutch waiting at red lights. Well, the day came. My son drove me to my boss’s house. Then it was just “me and my daughter” sitting there preparing to drive that little puppy home, on the freeway, over 70 Mph. That was Thanksgiving Day 2017. Well, that drive home wasn’t bad, it was faster than my Toyota and more responsive, but nothing horrible happened. However, what was bad were my nerves (i.e., adrenaline) whenever I was the first person at a red light. I didn’t want to sit at the red light holding the clutch down since that’s not good - right; so I got overly anxious anticipating the light change in order to get off the line quickly. It got so bad that my blood pressure starting rising for over a month; trust me, I measured it daily. So now I’m the owner of a inexpensive 5 speed car of my mid-life crisis dreams and it’s negatively effecting my health. Moreover, I was behaving like a newbie manual transmission driver despite the fact that I drove all over SF, in all that city traffic, in a less powerful 4 cylinder manual transmission vehicle. I decided to keep at it and at the beginning of 2018 I no longer cared about how ‘”slow” I left the line at stop lights. My blood pressure is back to normal and I enjoy my short commutes to work each and every time, even if I encounter some bumper to bumper traffic. I don’t do aggressive down shifting or even heel toe. I don’t hold the car on hills; although I’ve yet to drive it in SF. The WV is very responsive, even in 4th or 5th gear. It simply moves when I need it to move; which is a small problem because I find myself racing up the on ramps and cruising at 80+ MPH because it sounds so great. An automatic transmission requires less physical work and less attention to details (MPH, RPMs) but a manual transmission is simply put, “More funner!”

Which is the more important between health and life insurance?

I’m buying a first car soon, and I don’t want the insurance to go through the roof. At all. I really hate Hondas with a passion and that kind of lowers the list, but oh well.. It doesn’t really need all the fancy bells and whistles—just needs to be comfortable, cheap-ish insurance, and easy to fix. I’m looking into Buicks right now. My mom said she likes the Scion tC, and I don’t really mind either (but it does look kind of girly). Any other good options? Thanks!” Will my speeding ticket raise my insurance? What type of person or situation would benefit the most from leasing a car?

Certainly not me. I couldn’t give a flaming rat’s ass what you think about what I’m driving. The money I have saved alone, from not leasing or driving new vehicles, or paying their insurance, has ,fully, supported my horse habit. Years and years of hundreds of dollars every month, freed up to buy, own, and gleefully live on large rural properties, and where I can keep my horses at home, where they only cost $50/month to feed in the summer, and $100/month to feed in the winter. Let that sink in a bit. By not driving and insuring a new car all of the time, I have gorgeous animals mowing and fertilizing my lawn, and who keep me physically fit and happy (no workout club fees, and no hospital bills from being fat/diabetic), and …….. who are even a viable backup transportation mode themselves (not only ridden, but I also own horse harness, have owned carts/buggies, and have trained my horses to drive — I even resold my fully restored 1930’s doctor buggy for the exact price I paid for it, before I moved). I only lease if it’s an employee lease deal to good to pass up, and I have never, to this day, paid full price for a new vehicle. I drive my fully purchased vehicles for well over a decade each, ON AVERAGE. I drove several Ford lease vehicles only because Ford, being self insured, leased you a vehicle for a normal lease price, but you saved $150-$250 a month not having to pay insurance. This was critical for employees with teenage drivers. Dad would limp to work in some old beater, but Sonny got to cruise around in a brand new Mustang —because of the insurance the family didn’t have to pay. Other than those few leases of a couple of F150s, a Fusion, and a Mazda Miata (only $250 a month for 2 years as long as I one year-leased F150s at the same time), I buy and drive my vehicles literally into the ground, unless something horrible happens to it. I drove my used Chevy LUV for 12 years til I sold it to a guy at a gas station for $100 after one of its cylinders died, and I was barely able to limp it off the road and into the gas station. I used that $100 to take a greyhound bus home. I drove my used Mazda Rx7 for 7 years til another car crushed it head-on. Those two Wenkels saved my life, being half of the vehicle’s length :). I really loved that car. I drove my feature maxed-out, dealer-driven for a year Honda Civic CRX SI for 13 years until I sold it to a high school student for $900. I drove my bought from a relative at age 2 Subaru Forester for 14 years before I traded it and 15 yr old F350 in for an 8 year old Nissan. Drove that car off the lot owing NOTHING. Driving it today. All I pay is insurance. Still driving my bought used at age 2, 15 yr old Ford F150. All I pay is insurance. I pick my hay up in a very used 1974 International Tractor with a 1985 Cummins, with a 48 foot long 1987 Kentucky Dry Goods trailer. The registration and insurance are cheap due to being a farm truck only. Most expensive part is slowly replacing the 18 wheels/tires 2 at a time … This tractor trailer combo is not to be confused with the 2003 New Holland TC40A tractor that I bought used in 2009. Still driving that on my farm today. I bought my aluminum 3 horse trailer new in 1998 — and I’ve had it 21 years, just less than the horse I bought it for (she’s 25 and still going strong). I redid the electricals once a decade ago, and replaced the hitch three times. I think I’m on my third set of tires. Sales of my warmblood mare’s babies alone have more than paid for my investments in her and them. I also won a little money and have a bunch of ribbons. One of her sons, now owned by a friend of mine, is leased out every year for $20K. The teenage girl whose parents lease her when from fat to fit while showing him, AND each year he EARNS HIS LEASE FEE BACK IN WINNINGS. He’s 17 years old. My friend is needless to day, so impressed, she turned around and bought his sister, after I had already made four foals with her, including an approved stallion. A full brother to the gelding is also winning in showjumping in Canada. My 25 yr old mare has great great grandchildren being ridden as I write this. Happy horse owners everywhere, all because I don't give a rat’s ass what people think about the vehicles I drive. I also have a flatbed trailer that I bought used in 2010. No idea what year it was built. I keep pounding that back ramp gate flat so I can slide the pins pack in their sleeves :). It’s on its 2nd set of tires. So, if you were paying attention above, I only bought the Honda sorta kinda new, but with a huge discount with 3000 miles on it for being a dealer demo car. I did buy my horse trailer completely new, but I got a discount ‘cause I knew an employee working there. I will buy (not lease) an electric vehicle the very moment: Someone tells me I don’t have to double mortgage my house to buy a replacement battery, and I can tow a 3 horse trailer up a steep hill and not fall below 40 mph, and I can get to a horse show and back without having to panic to find a place to charge, and Charging is wireless.

What are the challenges that Africans face when they return home from developed countries?

The gap is narrowing between Africa and Europe. In 2001 when I was 25, I applied for and was granted a Working Holiday Visa for the UK. I'm South Africa, born and raised, and prior to going to live in the UK for 2 years in 2001, I'd only been to other African countries like Madagascar, Mozambique, Botswana, Zambia, and Malawi. And 1 trip to the Maldives. My uncle was involved in hotel developments on Madagascar, and the Maldives islands and could swing us great deals. What I did discover about the UK: Jobs galore. The terms of my visa stated that I was not allowed to accept a permanent position, and was only allowed to work for half the normal time, so I did loads of casual jobs, and yes, I did work more than I was allowed to. Of the 19 jobs I did over there, 18 employers offered me a permanent position. No one cared that I was a foreigner, or that I was white. Likewise my non white mates from all over the world, The Caribbean, Africa, middle East, Asia, Far East etc. No one cared that Vic was from Sri Lanka, or Godfrey was from Zimbabwe, or that Keith was from Trinidad. As long as you did your job all was well. If you excelled, thought outside the box, or showed initiative, you manager's were stunned, in a good way. You got an increase and a pat on the back. Unlike over here in SA where if you do more, you're only setting your own bar higher and now it's expected of you. Internet banking, banking in general, The UK was a bit backward back then. Loads of standing in queues and dealing with cheques. No SMS notification from the bank when there was activity in your account. South African banks were much more advanced at the time, but also much more expnsive to have a bank account in SA. The internet was better in the UK. I had a 1mbps cable internet connection bundled with my cable TV subscription, and it cost a pittance. Coming back to SA in 2004 we were still using 56K dialup modems at home, and ISDN for business. And a home dialup connection cost 5 time more than my UK cable TV package with internet cost. The UK is quite advanced as far as supermarkets are concerned, but they still lag behind South Africa. SA is a carbon copy of the USA. We have hundreds of huge Wal-Mart like stores all over the country where you can buy everyhing in 1 store. Canned & frozen goods, wine, beer, whiskey, fresh fruit, meat, & vegetables, cooked meat and vegetables — few things are as convenient as buying a whole roasted chicken, a cooked starch, and 2 or 3 side veggies for tonight's supper while getting bread and milk, oh and that lawn mower blade you suddenly remember you needed, and a new pipe segment for your pool cleaner, all under 1 roof, and then driving 5 minutes home because these stores are eeeeverywhere. The only things we can't buy here from supermarkets, are firearms, and motor vehicles. And maybe some specialist sporting goods like bows, and parachutes… literally everything is available at Pick ’n Pay, Makro, Checkers Hyper, Game etc. The UK is close with Tesco, Sainsbury, Add a, and Aldi. But they don't sell hardware and tools, or large appliances or sporting goods. The rest of Europe is terrible, shopping for groceries and appliances for your new home in Italy takes the whole day and you will probably have to go to the town next door for some things. Public transport, developed nations have it, Africa has chaos. Potable water… South African homes in general have it, provided they are actual formal houses who's owners pay rates and taxes for these sorts of services. Said services are not guaranteed, and we do often end up without power or water for a few hours or days. In the UK they say the water is potable… I guess my definition of potable and the UKs differ. The water was always thick and murky in the UK. Tastes… things in Africa taste more real. Tomatoes taste like tomatoes, eggs like eggs. In the UK I spent a lot of time looking for fruit and veggies from Israel for instance, because the local stuff looked right, but smelled like nothing, and tasted like it was watered down 10 parts to 1. That was actually my first though when seeing this question. I was reminded of my flight back to SA from the UK on South African Airways. I asked the flight attendant or an Orange juice, and nearly died. It was a little Ceres juice box from SA, and after 2 years of drinking and eating the toned down UK faire this little juice box , while completely normal, was like drinking orange concentrate with added sugar, and a few times the RDA of citric and ascorbic acids in 1 sip. I ended up flagging the next flight attendant down and asking for a water as well Tyre and car prices. The UK government sponsors the tyre price, but we pay full price over here. Used Cars can cost more than new ones in SA if you aren't careful LOL many things are like that here. Most saddening or maddening is the local car manufacturers being protected by the state. One cannot buy a used car from abroad and bring it to SA without a huge amount of paperwork and massive import duties. Consequently one does not see all manner of foreign vehicles here. All one sees is the locally manufactured brands, and the officially imported new vehicles. But we will never see old exotics here. There's a Lamborghini Countache near me. It's right hand drive, because it was bought new in SA as an official import for SA. Okay part imported, the Countache were partially built here in SA and then shipped to Italy for final assembly. We simply missed out on many amazing cars like the JZA80 Supra, and the R32, R33, R34 Skyline GTRs, Honda's NSX, and Integra never came here either. Only Mazda didn't have their heads up their asses so we were able to buy the Series 6 RX7, and RX8. Silly rules about power tools… UK has them but we don't. Can I have a show of hands, who needs 4 days training and a certificate to use an electric drilling machine for crying out loud?
