As a long time police motor officer, what is your preferred police motorcycle? Did you like the old Kawasaki KZ 1000 police bikes, or do you prefer Harley Davidsons, or BMW's? What kind of motorcycles do you personally own and ride when off duty?

I’ve been a motor officer for the last 24 years (I guess that’s a long time). As such I have had the opportunity to ride a few different motors. In my area, Harley Davidson is the most common brand even though we do have a few BMW’s in the area. I started out on a ‘94 HD FXRP, basically a Low Rider with police lights and luggage. That was and still is my favorite police motor. I really like the BMW’s they’re fast and agile, but I personally believe they’re too fast for city patrol and they’re too quiet. Motorists just can’t hear you coming. I currently have a 2018 Harley FLHTP. The bike is fast (enough) somewhat agile and I can ride it pretty well. We compete in several police rodeos every year and I can hold my own. As for a personal bike, I’m a motorcycle guy and have been for 40 years. I’ve owned Honda, Kawasaki, Harley. I am currently in the market for a BMW GS1250, for no other reason than I’d like to switch it up. My personal opinion is if you like motorcycles and want to ride, it doesn’t matter what you ride. More important than brand or model you choose, training is what makes the rider.

I am planning to buy a bike for long rides and budget is not a constraint, which is best and comfortable bike for long rides in India?

If you want to travel the world, which vehicle do you choose, an SUV or a tour bike?

Good question. I'd do it using both. I'd use a proper adventure tourer like the KTM 1290 adventure or the BMW GS1250 or something like that. There are quite a few good options in that category. Then for the SUV, I'd use the Toyota Land Cruiser.

If you could have any 5 motorcycles, which would they be and why?

Ummmm. 2020 Goldwing with Corbin box top , 2020 Aprilia RSV-RR, 2020 BMW GS1250 adventure, 2020 Kawasaki h2r, 1969 Honda CB750, should be a nice dream garage. Had to throw the old Honda in because I LOVED those bikes in every way.

Ok so I am 6’4 and wanting to buy a motorcycle and have very little experience riding and am looking for a very cheap bike to learn. Is a Honda Rebel to small?ps I am a harley fan. And everyone tells me Im going to die will I?

Hi. It basically depends on what type of bike you really like and where do you want to ride it. I am a little shorter in height at 6′1 and have been riding a triumph Thunderbird storm for the last 3 years. I also have a royal Enfield for about 5 years. A friend of mine, who is 6′6 rides a Harley for open highways, a Triumph tiger 800 and BMW GS1250 for offroading and a Triumph Bonneville t120 for normal city traffic. Best option is to head to your nearest showrooms and check out all options for yourself. I would suggest to go for a cruiser or an adventure bike. Happy riding

Which all cars and bikes would you have in your dream garage, consisting of cars from all segments and brands (cheapest to ultra luxury/ supercars) available in India?

Like everyone else, I have had an evolving list of vehicles for my ,future, garage, I’ll, however, limit the list to five cars and motorcycles available as of today in India. Motorcycles: BMW S1000RR M in Red Triumph Daytona 675R with a full system Arrow KTM Duke 390 with full system Akrapovic BMW GS1250 Rallye Honda Goldwing with a tow hitch LMV: Lamborghini Urus Nissan GTR Toyota Land Cruiser J200 Mahindra Thar Maruti Suzi Swift

Should I get a motorcycle and a dirt bike? One for street fun and one for dirt fun

It all comes down to your personal preference. One bike is good at one area, not other. You can of course take a dirt bike for a long ride, but it won't be comfortable. The knobbies tire will make the handle bar vibrates. The narrow seat won't be comfortable for long rides. Absence of windshield will makes you tired faster due to wind blast to the chest, neck, and your head. There's a segment in motorcycle that tries to cover all the check box, comfortable and off-road capable. This is a growing segment. Models like BMW GS1250, Honda Africa Twin, Yamaha Tenere 700. Rule of thumb, the heavier the bike, the less off-road capable it become. Manuevering 200–250kg plus machine consumes more energy, focus than a 100–150kg bike. Dirt bike is one end of the spectrum while cruiser (Harleys, Goldwing) is the other end, street bike sits right in the middle of the spectrum. Your riding tracks also plays a big role. Less extreme terrain, allows you to take less off road capable bike. Shorter tracks, you don't need the comfy seats, wind-protections stuff

What is the best motorcycle that is great for off-road and street performance?

It is difficult to find one motorcycle that does everything well - but closest you can get to this kind of requirement are following options: Ducati Scrambler Triumph Scrambler Both the above have their own charm and are both capable motorcycles that are good for daily riding as well as occasional detour on bad roads in rural areas and mild off-road conditions. These are not hard core off-road capable bikes though. Ducati is the lighter one among them so a bit more preferable…But Triumph has its charm too.. For real, go-anywhere, capability, you have options like Suzuki V-Strom 650, Triumph Tiger 800, BMW GS 750 and 850, Honda Africa Twin. All the above bikes are quite good for off-road riding and adventures like river crossing and going to totally remote areas such as Leh, Khardungla and so on. V-Strom is the most affordable while Africa Twin seems the most off-road capable among these. Tiger-800 is the best all-rounder as it does everything sufficiently well. Still I would say, these ADV bikes are not exactly friendly in day-to-day office commute or ride to your college in the middle of the city. Beyond these you reach into the realm of super expensive and huge bikes like BMW GS1250, Ducati Multistrada 1260, Tiger 1200 and so on…These are not suitable for daily riding at all due to their height and weight and these are truly meant to conquer the continents or you can do Pan-India tours on these bikes without worrying about the conditions of the road in remotest areas.

What's the best motorcycle for a long trip (considering traveling around South America, like Chile, Argentina, and Bolivia)? I was looking for a touring or big trail. My dream is having a Harley-Davidson, but I have no idea if they are reliable.

Harleys are probably as reliable as any motorcycle these days. And they would likely perform admirably if all roads were modern smooth blacktop. All roads are not blacktop. A dual sport bike being your best choice. One can chose an inexpensive but fully capable bike such as the Kawasaki klr650, Suzuki dr650, etc (around $6500) or opt for a high end bike such as the BMW gs1250 ($20,000+) Another thing to consider is motorcycle insurance. It’s doubtful if your motorcycle insurance is valid once you leave the US/Canada/Europe. Technically, anytime you cross a border, you need to purchase insurance specifically for that country. Not sure exactly how people deal with this situation. Harley now makes a dual sport bike (think they start around $18K) that seems to be getting favorable reviews

Should I buy a GS310 or Interceptor 650? The main issue is my height is 6'3, but I like the 650cc too. Which one is better if money is not an issue for both?

Interceptor has heating issues on slow moving traffic . My cousin has one and he says it's a major turnoff. The seating stance is also not to everyone's liking The BMW IMO is overpriced but a good entry in the world of advs . You may upgrade to bigger GS bikes later , as is the norm abroad. The GS1250 is considered the gold standard in ADVs.
