How do technicals (improvised fighting vehicles) work?
They are about as good as the people who create them. One of the most common are your basic Toyota Hilux or similar pickup with nothing more than a weapon like the ZU-23 OR KPV AA cannons. Generally, they are fully traversable except in the direction of the cab itself. As for firing on the move, no. For larger weapons than say a DSHK 12.7MM gun, like the above ZU-23, they need to be stationary. They are generally NOT armored because of the extra weight needed for the metal plates. They usually only have a small 4cyl engine and they're not gonna pull that much. But since the ZU is an AA gun, it can fire at longer distances than just a 7.62 PK or .50cal DSHK EDIT- However, if you have a more powerful vehicle, like a Land Cruiser or 8cyl pickup, you can do lot more with it. I've seen some that actually have the entire turret assembly from a BMP IFV mounted on it.
Which one is better, a Toyota Hilux or a Ford Ranger?
I can only speak for us here in Southern Africa region. By better i don't know which category of better you mean cause I've driven both ranger and the hilux but my parents have owned rangers all their lives. Reliability? Both have done a good job. Ford slipped a little bit from 2007 until 2011. Towing? Ford. Especially with the 3.2L 5 cylinder turbo diesel. Load carrying capacity? Both are decent. Power? Ford of course. That 3.2L diesel is a king. Interior? Ford seems to have nicer amenities interior wise and it looks good as well. The rear seats are comfortable on the ford. Exterior looks? Ford seems to win the battle here. Cost of maintenance? Ford is more costly and that's because parts are slightly not as strong as toyota when it comes to longevity. That reminds me of the next point. Longevity? Both are good. Again, ford slipped off in the PJ and PK models (I think its PK) from 2007 until 2011. But both have shown to be reliable over a long time. Both the ford and Toyota are arguably the best midsize pickup trucks outside of America. You will not get disappointed at either especially when you maintain them. I would definitely check both thoroughly in the second hand market because people want a lot of money for toyota hilux and other people think ford rangers are indestructible. Dont know why.
You're tasked with building a small army. You have to issue them a rifle, utility vehicle, main battle tank, transport helicopter and also camouflage uniforms. What do you pick and why?
Oh Boy…! Warning Long Post Ahead.. Lets start from Utility vehicle. Since the vehicle might encounter harsh terrains it has to be reliable. In such a condition i would choose Toyota Hilux/Land cruisers.. Utility Vehicle:- The reason is Toyota is meant for reliability and durability. As you can see you can literally go everywhere with these 4 Wheel Drive vehicles. Another interesting point is that you can mount 7.62 Machine Guns,Anti Aircraft Guns and also carry troops. In case of Armored ones i would go for BMP. Rifles and Small Arms:- Obviously troops require rifles which can survive the Harsh terrain and also easy to maintain. Keeping into these in mind i would choose AK and Tavor’s. Apart from Rifles i would choose Glock 17/19 pistols MP5 SMG’s Uzi Frag Grenades and Flash Bangs Glock Knives RPG’s and Carl Gustav FN Minimi,PK Machine Guns and IMI Negev’s Dragunov’s and H&K PSG FN-SCAR H Battle Rifles Utility Helicopter:- Now here comes the airborne transport. I would choose Mi-17 and HAL Dhruv(India) for carrying troops. In case of dedicated Attack Helicopters i would go for AH-64 for heavy attack and HAL Rudra for armed reconnaissance. Main Battle Tanks:- I would go for M1 Abrams and T90S Bhisma since both are combat worthy. Camouflage: For Camouflage i would go for digital pattern This can be used in Jungle/Snow/Mountain areas only. For desert pattern i choose
