How dangerous is it to be a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army?

The following was written anonymously during Vietnam. It will help answer your question. EVERYTHING I NEEDED TO KNOW IN LIFE I LEARNED AS A HELICOPTER PILOT IN VIETNAM. a.. Once you are in the fight, it is way too late to wonder if this is a good idea. b.. It is a fact that helicopter tail rotors are instinctively drawn toward trees, stumps, rocks, etc. While it may be possible to ward off this natural event some of the time, it cannot, despite the best efforts of the crew, always be prevented. It's just what they do. c.. NEVER get into a fight without more ammunition than the other guy. d.. The engine RPM and the rotor RPM must BOTH be kept in the GREEN. Failure to heed this commandment can affect the morale of the crew. e.. Cover your Buddy, so he can be around to cover for you. f.. Decisions made by someone above you in the chain-of-command will seldom be in your best interest. g.. The terms Protective Armor and Helicopter are mutually exclusive. h.. Sometimes, being good and lucky still is not enough. i.. "Chicken Plates" are not something you order in a restaurant .j.. If everything is as clear as a bell, and everything is going exactly as planned, you're about to be surprised. k.. Loud, sudden noises in a helicopter WILL get your undivided attention. l.. The BSR (Bang Stare Red) Theory states that the louder the sudden bang in the helicopter, the quicker your eyes will be drawn to the gauges. The longer you stare at the gauges the less time it takes them to move from green to red. m.. No matter what you do, the bullet with your name on it will get you. So, too, can the ones addressed "To Whom It May Concern". n.. If the rear echelon troops are really happy, the front line troops probably do not have what they need. o.. If you are wearing body armor, they will probably miss that part. p.. Happiness is a belt-fed weapon. q.. Having all your body parts intact and functioning at the end of the day beats the alternative. r.. If you are allergic to lead, it is best to avoid a war zone. s.. It is a bad thing to run out of airspeed, altitude, and ideas all at the same time. t.. Hot garrison chow is better than hot C-rations which, in turn, is better than cold C-rations which, in turn, is better than no food at all. All of these, however, are preferable to cold rice balls, even if they do have the little pieces of fish in them. u.. Everybody's a hero ... on the ground ... in the club ... after the fourth drink. v.. A free fire zone has nothing to do with economics. w.. The further you fly into the mountains, the louder the strange engine noises become. x.. Medals are OK, but having your body and all your friends in one piece at the end of the day is better. y.. Being shot hurts. z.. "Pucker Factor" is the formal name of the equation that states the more hairy the situation is, the more of the seat cushion will be sucked up your ass. It can be expressed in its mathematical formula of S (suction) + H (height) above ground) + I (interest in staying alive) + T (# of tracers coming your way) aa..Thus the term 'SHIT!' can also be used to denote a situation where high Pucker Factor is being encountered. ab.. Thousands of Vietnam Veterans earned medals for bravery every day. A few were even awarded. ac.. Running out of pedal, fore or aft cyclic, or collective are all bad ideas. Any combination of these can be deadly. ad.. There is only one rule in war: When you win, you get to make up the rules. ae.. C-4 can make a dull day fun. af.. There is no such thing as a fair fight-only ones where you win or lose. ag.. If you win the battle you are entitled to the spoils. If you lose you don't care. ah.. Nobody cares what you did yesterday or what you are going to do tomorrow. What is important is what you are doing-NOW-to solve our problem. ai.. Always make sure someone has a P-38. Uh, that's a can opener for those of you who aren't military. aj.. Prayer may not help . . . but it can't hurt. ak.. Flying is better than walking. Walking is better than running. Running is better than crawling. All of these, however, are better than extraction by Medivac, even if it is technically, a form of flying. al.. If everyone does not come home, none of the rest of us can ever fully come home either. am.. Do not fear the enemy, for your enemy can only take your life. It is far better that you fear the media, for they will steal your HONOR. an.. A grunt is the true reason for the existence of the helicopter. Every helicopter flying in Vietnam had one real purpose: To help the grunt. It is unfortunate that many helicopters never had the opportunity to fulfill their one true mission in life, simply because someone forgot this fact. ao.. If you have not been there and done that you probably will not understand most of these.

Should the B-36 be added to War Thunder?

No. Why? Say it with me. Ｍ　ａ　ｓ　ｓ　ｉ　ｖ　ｅ　Ｒ　Ｐ　Ｐ　Ｉ　Ｎ　Ａ　Ｔ　Ａ It doesn’t fit the game’s map design nor the meta. The ,Convair B-36 Peacemaker, has the distinction of being the largest piston-engined aircraft ever built and the longest wingspan of any combat aircraft ever built at over 70m. It was also very heavy, with it’s MTOW weighing in at a chungus 186 tonnes. This thing is a min-max of extremes. First off, this thing’s not particularly agile. Pretty obvious considering the size and weight. In fact, Lieutenant General James Edmundson likened it to "...sitting on your front porch and flying your house around." Good luck evading enemy fighters. The rate of climb is not terrible at 10m/s. But considering that the payload permits it to be matched against the best aircraft any nation ingame can field, it’s laughably bad. The armament is… well… Pathetic. While the B-36B mounted a respectable 16 20mm cannons, the B-36J only had a tail turret mounting twin 20mms. Say goodbye to anything approaching you from anywhere but the rear. While the Peacemaker had a respectable top speed of 672km/h, a full 102km/h faster than the B-29, the payload again permits it to be matched against the best of any nations aircraft. I have mentioned the payload multiple times in this answer. This is why. It can carry a fuck-you 39 tonnes of bombs. The payload alone ensures that the Peacemaker can be at 10.0 and be very comfortable with bombing every single bombing target ingame and then some. If the Peacemaker is to be implemented ingame, it will have to: Have it’s bomb load artificially nerfed. Not unheard of of Gaijin to do this, but the bomb load is probably the main attraction here so it’s not gonna do it much good. Be at a low enough BR that even a single Peacemaker can end the game singlehandedly. Good lord I don’t want that. Be at a high enough BR to be curbstomped. Due to Gaijin’s shitty economy I foresee the repair costs for this plane to be in the 6 digits in SL cost. No. It just doesn’t fit the meta. Air RB needs a complete overhaul. Hell, it’s not viable in RB nor AB. The bombload is just far too gamebreaking. I’ll see you on the field!

What are the differences between the offences of NDA/IMA/OTA and IPC?

{Caution : the article might be lengthy but I assure, every word has a meaning and u ll enjoy reading it} I have no knowledge about IPC but I can tell ,u ,about various offences commited by cadets at NDA/IMA and other training academies atleast. PIC1:-,M,AHARAJA UNDER PROGRESS Every step you take,every breathe,every second passed….one might land up commiting an offence for which you can be punished. Certain offences you won't even commit but will be punished as Defence forces believe in giving mass punishment to a group,even if one among them commits crime. As tommorow, u ll have to live together,fight together,win together,bleed n celebrate together,a single mistake of one among u, might break silence and the whole group might land up in enemy's surp,rised striking ambush ,making ur survival chances minimal. Few n my favorite of all such offences are as under :- Thinking, is a crime (it's a 4th termer privledge at NDA).So don't think much,just get your head down and keep doing Watever told. This shall ease ur training & passing out. Skipping meals, is an offence . One might get 3 restrictions even if you don't feel like eating,you are suppose to report at mess,as its a parade not a choice.Academies won't let u miss ur motherly love n pamper.Now that u hv reached mess so better eat, one is mostly not sure about getting next meal. The two golden rules to be followed are :-,A senior is always right ,in case of doubt ,follow the first one. ,In case you think otherwise,you just commited a crime of ,thinking,.😭😭. One has to walk/double dismounting while cycling downslopes and can pedal cycle if wish to and left over with energy,on upslopes.(Refer carriapa downslopes /gadha bn of IMA, Pt 2475 at NDA,Bolaram bridge at CTW,secbad). In case you are found cycling on downslopes n caught,u ll be charged with an offence of ,committing, ,suicide ,and be given 3 x ,restrictions. In, case someone is seating at your cycles carrier,you will be charged with an offence of ,commiting suicide ,and an ,attempt to murder, also with ,double mounting ,and shall be punished upto 07 x restrictions .🤣🤣seems funny..right. Running in summers 40 * Celsius with a battle load ain't funny at all. Academy's are generous enogh not to hang u or giving a life imprisonment atleast (as given in IPC for similar offence ). One can be punished for not carrying a ,needle ,or a ,button ,in pocket content.Forget about other bigger items like blanket,weapon,big pack,water bottle,or your mind (absent minded)or your own body (being absent from parade). Punishments are not given but ,awarded.,one must accept it with smile., ,One can fail in punishment,not report for punishment,avoid,ignore it, but doing so will multiply your punishment 1x3 =3,3x3=9,27,81…..you know basic Maths..right? .The academies don't jhelo your Nakhras,,even Hritrik Roshan had left academy once in movie Lakhsya,.In case you don't finish your runs on tym,u stay back while others are on term end leave,finish them n go n meet ur mother and your lovely girlfriend (in case you aren't broken up yet…that long distance relationship with no calls and overhauls). You cannot stare at female gender,should always have a smiling,polite face..come what may while looking eye to eye wrt a lady or a lady teacher,instructor, else you will be charged with an offence of ,giving meaningful looks ,and be given 3–7xrestictions. Remember prahar movie where one cdo whistles…..don't ever think about it,you might end up relegated/withdrawn on disciplinary grounds. PIC:-,MODELLING AT NDA KHARAKWASLA LAKE /PEACOCK BAY A negative points of 35 restrictions at NDA n 42 at IMA(if I'm not wrong),shall fetch you a relegation for that term. Relegated twice for same offence will fetch you withdrawal from academies. See its not as easy a survival. You can fetch punishments for carrying/keeping unauthorized items like a mobile,an ATM,a pidely old SIM you forgot in your purse,or money more than rs 1500,a MP4,a laptop,a liquor bottle,cigarette,drug,ganja,hash,a knife,a gun,a knotted rope,a pet,a girl/gf in your room,an ac,a fridge,a car/two wheeler parked outside,a snake,a living dinosaur and a million other things,living or non -living.(See…Again you commited offence ,thinking ,about dinosaurs🤣). One can fetch punishments:- While walking and not doubling While doubling and not sprinting While sprinting and not flying While flying and not vanishing /evaporating.😂you know everything is possible for a cadet.(While in training days a cadet think in :- why to fly if I can sprint,y to sprint if I can double,y to double if I can walk,y to walk if I can sit,y to sit if I can lean,y to lean if I can lie,now that I have lied down,Wats wrong in sleeping 😴). PIC3:- CADETS SLEEPING AWAY TO GLORY One can fetch punishments for :- Not going in squad of four. Talking while going in squad of four. Not marching properly while in squad. Steps not matching while in squad. Not wishing properly while in squad. One can fetch punishments for :- Not dressing properly Not carring name tab Not taking hair cut,shoes not polished,trousers not ironed the creases of it not as sharp as a knife blade. Not wishing a lady passing by (as u were confused if she's an officers wife or a lady/women officer, herself, or a daughter of some senior officer,whom u can date post commission, while day dreaming so you ended up commiting an offence of ,giving meaningful look.🤣🤣,) PIC:- ,MODELLING AT NDA,BACKGROUND OF NDA SCIENCE BLOCK. One can also fetch punishments for :- Not carrying a handkerchief. If carrying then not white in colour. If white then not ironed. If ironed then not marked with your number. You just can't escape fetching punishment if seniors has made up his mind.🤓 PIC:-TWO CADETS HAVING FUN ROLLING One can commit offences ,Destroying, ,Govt property by cycling a flat tyred/punctured cycle.(As you were forming part of a squad of 4). While writing grafitti on class benches. While hiding mobile cutting pages in between a thick history book. While breaking ,N ,number of hockeys in which one was broken while playing on feilds and the rest hitting other living things🤪.( Be confused,certain things are not meant to be explained) While playing with balls of living things as a first termer mistakebly forgot hockey balls at sqn.And the team cannot go back to sqn without playing.😨😰😱 One can be punished for ,drinking:- Water, during, ,normal games period. During camp practices taken by seniors after u ran some 30km on some sunny normal day at some barren mountain top with ur lungs almost popping out .U will be told when to drink water. Not carrying topped up water bottle as it was one of the pack content,u carried that ,needle and button ,though. Drinking alcohol/cigarette smoking a gross offence. Not drinking water during table sessions. If drank,then not doing helicopter,whiskey,cream rolling,maharaja.( The terms have diffrent academy meaning) If done all this,then y ur coursemate not doing 😂😂, part of ,mass punishment.,see again lemme remind u…,brother to my left,brother to my right,together shall v live,together shall v die. You can also get be mistakebly punished for passing in your exam,as some other cadet having same name as urs failed in Chinese foreign language exam drastically and you are yet to see your answersheet and thought of not thinking (as u were following rule number 1 of obeying seniors)🤪 and assuming ur failure untill u see ur marksheet the other day.( It's even more funny when u found that u were topper of Chinese FL exam in actuals).happened to me 🤣🤣. There are offences related :- missing out compulsory movie. Going for movie during exams. Not going for movie during exams (Refer INDIA sqn NDA movie tradition). Going for movie while admitted at MH. Caught clapping,whistling,laughing while at funny /erotic scene in movie.(Movies rated ,A ,adult not shown),. If the one who whistles ain't caught and doesn't own up then whole academy of approx 2000 cadets might land up for punishment for next three days( happen at IMA during my tym,someone whistled in DEV D movie sugarcane fields scene,whole academy was treated godly for next three days). So a cadet endup making his own movie :- Acted/actioned by himself directed by seniors cadets produced by officers instructors dialogued by drill ustads Advertised/marketed by PT instructor. Scripted by academy adjutant Full of horror ,thrill,action and adventurous content with not even a pinch of romance,comedy or an interval break.😂😂 The sequence/season 2 of the Same movie are released keeping basic Maths in mind 1,3,9,27,81…… The list is infinite,these were to name a few. CONCLUSION:- Sitting on some mountain top now,I feel nostalgic while remembering these above mentioned experiences of my cadet life.Facing and commiting these was funny at times, the time passed, the training eases when u r given no time to think. One doesnt get to know when he passes out,going through up n downs of his cadet life. The ability to push your mind for just another step brings glorious n a sparkling future ahead. The same brings smile now. Now i can think as much, stare as much (I don't do though,ladies stares me now), watch movies of A content( but I have limited or no internet here), I can eat cream roll now rather then doing it, helicopter is not a punishment but a luxury, whiskey is felt otherwise now. The doubling /sprinting has given me enogh stamina to climb over these snowy and dangerous passes (where a normal civilian don't even think of coming as these not so friendly conditions do not adventure them). What's the craziest thing you have done for love?

We were newly wed. Though he loved me from 2 years I was still in the phase of falling more and more in love with him. My in-laws went on a small trip to temples in south tamilnadu and before leaving my mother-in-law warned me not to go anywhere after dusk as I was a newly wed and it is a belief that newly weds if stay out during night then some evil spirit will occupy the body and hence will result in the bride and the groom having health issues.( ,I don't know why this thing is said to newly weds. Dinner prepared and we both had it. We were chatting and power went off. We didn't have an UPS power back up, back then and I loved the darkness, ,and refused to light a candle. Suddenly( ,so many of such sudden suddenlys did put me into trouble), I felt this urge of swinging on a tree and asked him to take me to the field. He said that as it was almost 10.30 p.m it wasn't a good idea to go out. But, I requested him saying,” ,Please..please..take me.. I badly want to swing and stare at the dark sky. It has been my dream from so many years but my mom never let me do it. Please help me na…take me”. He had to agree after all which husband will refuse to do things that makes his newly wed wife happy. ( ,I sometimes imagine, if I ask him the same now I don't know which local shop's old shoe would be flying at me…ready to kiss my forehead…hehehe..) We locked the doors and he took his car and we went to someone's field that had a huge banyan tree. I had brought a torch with me and that led us to the tree. He took 2 hanging branches and tied them together and asked me to swing carefully. He went and sat in the car as mosquitoes were biting him.( ,Mosquitoes always choose him over others, looks like they are more possessive about him than me). I, ,switched off the torch and sat there swinging and singing ,jeena yahaan maruna yahaan(the only song that I hum everyday),and staring at the dark moonless sky. Though I love to see the moon, I prefer a dark spotless sky. Occasionally I was seeing my 'Mister' whose smiling face was visible from the light from the mobile in his hand. After some time I joined him in the car. I saw that he was asleep with mobile in his hand. I stroked his hair gently and took the mobile from his hand and checked the time. It was 2.15.a.m. He was using Nokia N 73 mobile at that time and I went through his contact numbers and was changing the original names to something that was funny and I don't know when I had dozed off too. I woke up suddenly touching my teeth as I had a dream about my teeth to have fallen down( ,thank god..it was just a dream), and saw that my 'Mister' was snoring off( ,he must have been very tired or else he doesn't feel asleep in uncomfortable places)., So, I didn't disturb him., ,I, ,checked the time and it was 4.30.a.m. Just then I saw something fly in the air few fields away. Several white clothes were flying in the mid air. I wondered as from where these clothes were flying. I suddenly remembered my mother-in-law's words and hurriedly woke him up and pointed my finger towards it. He woke up and lazily saw towards the direction and saw no one. Yes, there were no clothes flying. I got confused and scared too. I told him,” ,Let's, ,go home..please…”. ,He then started the car and we left for home. I couldn't figure out as to how the clothes were there a minute back and then vanished when I asked him to see. My in-laws came home after 2 days and a lady came home to inquire about how the trip had been and then she said in a quite low voice,” ,you know what happened in your absence.. I went to give dinner to the people who are doing the wood work in our new house that we are constructing in our field, I heard a male voice of a 50 year old singing from a banyan tree. I think I saw someone hang on the top of the tree. As I was all alone, I got scared and so walked away fastly towards my home. I am never going to give them dinner all alone. I should go and get a holy thread tied from any priest, don't know what bad spirits are roaming in fields”. If you people are wondering why I am saying all this. That singing bad spirit hanging on the top of the tree was me. I was drinking tea with them when she said this and almost puked the tea on my ,kerala ,saree, ahahaha…my new cream saree got destroyed. But, I couldn't help it. Both of them asked me if I was okay. I nodded and to change the topic asked her about the new house. She started to tell excitedly about how the wood work was done by people from Mumbai and how they work hard. She said,” ,They are working hard day and night and so will finish off the work in another week. They wake up at 4.a.m, bath and wear white clothes and do their Namaaz, have tea and bun and start working. There is no electricity connection yet and they are working with portable electric lighters. Should get a connection soon………” She was still talking, but my mind went blank. So, the flying clothes were my dear fellow humans giving their Namaaz. I choked and got severe coughs. That lady told me that maybe somebody were scolding me and that's why I got coughs( ,another age old belief). ,I nodded and excused myself, went into the washroom opened the tap and started filling the bucket with water so that water sound would be heard out and not me laughing as if my stomach might burst out. I held my stomach and sat down laughing so much that tears were flowing. I then washed my face and came out normally. That lady then seeing my eyes said,” ,Achachoooo.. look at your eyes, looks like some evil eyes have fell on you, you look sick..(and turning towards my mother-in-law) take some broomsticks and do that ritual that casts off evil eyes”. My mother-in-law nodded her head and as I was patting my face dry with a towel, I, ,had a towel in my hand and I put it tightly inside my mouth hiding my laughter( ,my biggest drawback, I cannot control my laughter) ,and my mind voice “ ,Bas kar pagli…ab rulayagi kya(Enough aunty, don't make me overwhelm). The crazy thing that I did for my love for swinging under the dark sky made an elderly aunt think that I am a 50yr old male spirit and also made me believe that devils or spirits exist.( ,I think in olden days something like this might have happened and hence people believed in ghosts and thus it got spread across and such things came into existence) The crazy thing my 'Mister' did for the love he had for me was to agree to my crazy wish and take me there, got bitten by mosquitoes and got funny names for his contact numbers…and then struggle to figure out as to who ,Gilja, was or who ,Boundy, was.. hehehe… P.S: Sorry for the loooonnnnggggggg post!
