รีวิว Q&A civic ek abs

How old is your car? Why would you not change/buy a new one?

I own and drive this reliable 16 year old Second Generation Toyota Rav4 here in Philippines that was owned by my father and it was given to him as a benefit for being loyal and one of the hard working employee in his company. Our Rav4 brought us to a lot of places in Philippines and became a service to my parents office and school for more than 10 years. It is equipped with a 5 speed manual transmission and 1.8 liters 1ZZ-FE engine same to 1.8 liters engine of Corolla Altis, Toyota MRS, Toyota Celica T230, and Lotus Elise Series 2 that is known for its reliability, efficiency & performance that can also reach 0 to 100 kph for at least 20 seconds. The second generation Rav4 have 3 options of engines which is this 1.8 engine with a 5 speed Manual Transmission, a 2.0 liters with a 4 speed Automotic and 5 speed Manual Transmission, and 2.5 4wd 4 speed Automatic Transmission. Since this is released early 2000s here in South East Asia, this Rav4 is not equipped with fancy technologies like the modern ones now. It has a basic head unit, basic speedometer, and manual aircon controls, power windows, two front airbags, and ABS. I just like to share: Back then during the 90s to mid 2000s, compact SUVs like the Honda CRV, Nissan Xtrail, Ford Escape, and Toyota Rav4 was the popular SUV in its segment because mid size SUVs like our locally sold Mitsubishi Pajero, Isuzu Trooper, Ford Expedition, Toyota Prado are rare & only the well stable families can afford and became a dream car by fresh graduates, families, college students, working people and teenagers. The cars mentioned is mostly used in local films by late 90s to mid 2000s Filipino famous heart rob young actors. That is why if you are in your 20s to 30s and you own one of the mentioned cars mentioned during the late 90s to mid 2000s a lot of your friends call you bigtime or cool. I was fortunate to have own one of the cars that was dreamed by a lot of Filipino youth during the mid 90s to mid 2000s. Why I prefer to use this 16 year old Rav4 than buy a better and more modern car? Budget - Since my income is not that stable, I don't have enough budget to buy a brand new modern car. I promised to myself whenever I buy or acquire something I will not apply for a loan and I will make sure I can afford it and will not consume 50% of my savings. Since my parents let me use this Rav4 I just spent for wear and tear repair & maintanance, gas, registration every year, Garmin Dashcam, Pioneer one din head unit, leather cover seat, aftermarket anti - theft system, aftermarket Bosch horn and paint protection. Quality and Reliability - Most cars especially Toyota that have the year of availability same as our Rav4 are well known for their reliability & made to last longer, and easy to repair since it don't have technologies that is complicated to repair when it break downs. My Rav4 has more than 100k in its odo and it still running good for everyday use and can be used in long distance roadtrip without breaking down. The underchassis and cooling system undergo a major repair last 6 years ago. The engine was never overhauled and only experienced to minor repair. Until now, the car is maintained in its good condition. In addition, I used this car often to carry my bike with a BNB bike rack. A lot of my friends who are in the buy and sell business offer me to buy my Rav4 because they know my car is maintained in good condition. Last, since it is a mid 2000s Toyota and share its some of its components with the 1.8 ZZ engine Corolla Altis parts are easy to find and a lot of car shop knows and familiar how to repair the Toyota ZZ engine. Easy to drive and size is right for me - My Rav4 is easy to drive around the city especially in traffic, small roads and parking size because its a small size crossover SUV. I don't get tired driving my Rav4 for a couple of hours around Metro Manila. Lastly, even though my Rav4 is criticized for its small & cramped interior size compared with its competition, the interior size is right and enough for me because most of the time I drive by myself and carry 1 to 3 passengers with my Rav4 and seldom use to carry a lot of stuffs. It has the genes of a sports car - This is the SUV I only know that uses the same engine with a sports car. Like what I said above, the engine of my Rav4 have the same engine installed in Toyota MRS, Toyota Celica 4th generation, and Lotus Elise Series 2. Most of my car enthusiasts I know personally said if I modify the engine of my Rav4, this SUV can match with performance of the MRS, Celica, Elise. Last, it is hard to sell something that has a sentimental value - This car is one of the reward to our family because of my fathers hardwork. This car was used to a lot memorable road trips for 16 years. One of my best memories with this car, we had a 1 week roadtrip exploring the northern provinces of Philippines. This is the car I learned and improved my driving skills. I also learned the basic components of a car. I don't have plan to buy a brand new car. Most of my target next car is in the used car market and will be a project and weekend car. I am considering a Miata NA, Civic EK or EG, or 80s Lancer.

I am doing engineering but I also do love civics, history and English what should I do?

Let me begin by telling you my story! I belong to a family of engineers. My father, a Mining Engineer and my elder sister a software engineer, accompanied by my relatives and people in my friend circle. So, I took up Science in my Higher Secondary (+12) with PCMB as my subjects, the aim behind this was to appear for IIT and take up engineering as a SAFE career choice! But, was I ever interested in doing Engineering? The question at this point is irrelevant actually, since at this age you couldn’t convince the crowd that there existed other career options, than engineering. I was never good in Maths! Maths was a nightmare for me. Ever since I was child, I was used to taking beatings from my father, tuition teacher, maths teacher and whoever concerned with teaching me maths. I wasn’t a dumb student, infact, I used to be the second topper in my class till class 10th. I was exceptionally good in subjects like English, History, Political Science, Sociology. My only weak nerve was maths. But no one cared, as if I was destined to be an Engineer. During my class 10th board exams, I fainted during my maths paper after seeing the question paper, after half-an-hour of ordeal the invigilators manged to get me into senses. When the results were out, I passed with a very narrow margin, although I was 100% sure that I won’t. HIS mercy! Now it was turn for the class 12th exams, I failed in three subjects in a row physics, chemistry and maths! YES! And I never had the courage to inform my parents about it! I just manged to convince my Dad to allow me a year drop to re-appear for BETTER marks in the Boards and to prepare for IIT simultaneously, he agreed. After six months of rigorous IIT preparations in Kota, I left for Bokaro without even informing my parents about it, I have had enough of engineering, I couldn’t take it anymore. I loved literature and history, I was the highest scorer in my school in these. Law seemed attractive to me although I wasn’t sure about my choice of career, I wanted to go for English Honors actually, but deep down I knew that my Dad would never allow me to go for it, so, I chose the safer side, LAW! Brought a single book of Arihant to prepare for CLAT, since I didn’t had any money on me to take up coaching classes. I tried my level hard for my interest. On the day of my IIT exam, yes my father had filled the form for me, I called my Dad, with all the gathered courage I had, “Papa, nhi de paunga IIT ka exam, aapko bol nhi paya par nhi karni mujhe engineering, dar lagta hai maths se hume. Papa, CLAT ka form bhara hun, Law karna hai! Please, ek baar karne do mujhe apne mann ki, please!” (I cried like a baby with these words having been said.) He hung up on me. Later in the evening my elder sister called and asked me to do what I wanted, my Mom had asked her and Dad to trust me on my decision. My father never supported the idea of donation based admission in engineering colleges, but on the day when I was about to enroll for Law, he asked me “Agar tum ab v engineering karna chahte ho to bolo, Mai kitna v donation dene ko taiyar hu. Acha choro! Mechanical nhi to Mining hi le lo, baki mai samhal lunga!” I held his hands and said “Papa, trust me on this, let me take up what I believe I can, and let me work hard for it just to make you proud.” He smiled. And now, I am in my final year, and he is really happy seeing my love and enthusiasm for Law. He, at times, buoyantly calls me, “Wakil sahab!”. And I’m blessed with the smile on his face.
