What is Tesla's mission/vision statement?

Would you consider the changing of mission and vision of Tesla as a big and major impact over their company survival and success?

Not sure Tesla needs to do that for survival or success, you should be worried of other car companies now than Tesla. It has been highest selling car in its category in all the region it was made available.

How do you or other leaders in your organization communicate the “core values”?

Hey Micheal, Your vision, mission and values shouldn’t be a secret to anyone, especially your employees. After all your vision, mission, and values create your company’s culture. And those should be expressed in every decision you make. And, they need to pass the laugh test with your employees. If you espouse, “open and honest communication,” and your employees laugh when they read it, you have a problem. Those are some of the intangible ways to communicate vision, mission, and values. Tangible ways are as easy as printed posters for display throughout your organization, including them on your letterhead, and including them on other promotional material. Many organizations today put them on their website. Tesla, Airbnb, LL Bean and many other organizations put their vision, mission and values on line. Many organizations also put their code of ethics on line. Why do they do this? Because they want you know. They want their customers to know what they stand for. They want you to call them on it if they fail to hold up their end of the bargain. They want to pass the laugh test. Thanks for the question. How does Elon Musk find the time to be CEO of two extremely innovative and demanding companies, SpaceX and Tesla?

It is Legal to be CEO of two companies. Steve Jobs was CEO of Pixar and Apple at the same time. Elon is awesome. The focus, the drive, more importantly the vision to be able to see things from a different perspective is amazing. Elon likes to conquer Industries and leave petty things [hands-on job] to employees. While, it might not be as challenging as coding in Java/C++ with two hands simultaneously, it certainly is challenging and requires an advanced multi-dimensional and a well-rounded thought process, that keeps one on the edge all the time, yet stable. 6. Leading the development and implementation of the overall ,organization's strategy,. Why do Tesla cars generate so much interest while other electric vehicles are generally ignored?

Besides being one of the best cars made, including ingenuity, efficiency and technology, Teslas Vision and Mission statement is better than any company that makes cars or most other manufactured item: “ Tesla’s ,vision, is to “create the most compelling car company of the 21st century by driving the world’s transition to electric vehicles,” while its ,mission, is “to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport by bringing compelling mass-market electric cars to market as soon as possible.” Tesla used a transitional ,business model, as its ecosystem grows.” This has been their vision/mission from the start and they mean it. Other manufacturers have updated theirs to look similar but only after seeing the success of Tesla. The other thing for me is Elon Musk. He’s one of the most brilliant and driven persons on the planet. Elon is the head engineer of all Tesla and Space-X designs. He oversees the development and construction of 3 or more of the biggest “giga factories” in the world. …all at the same time. He travels to different locations, not to market or schmooze, but to work with his people making things work better and faster. …and he sleeps at the plant so he doesn’t waste time traveling. Elon knows and cares about his products more than any other CEO. …sometimes at the expense of the stock market “experts” impressions of the company. This is why the “expert” market analysists say Tesla is going to go broke next week, only to have the stock double. This is a repeated pattern over many years. I could go on but you get the point.

What should a young person who is new to investing know before buying Tesla stock?

Please read the rest of the comments. The more you know the better. The most important part of investing in Tesla stock is: It should not be an investment that you make to store your money (eg. retirement) It is a long term stock. So you need to buy and hold. Tesla stock will drop significantly again and then recover. So this huge swings are very hard to deal with. You need to invest in Tesla because you believe in them and their product and their vision. Tesla stock price and investment are not a traditional investment and there is both a lot of FUD (Fear Uncertainty and Doubt) and Hype out there. You need to be able to see through this to get out at the appropriate time. At the moment a 5 year horizon looks good. But with current economic environment this can change in days. Tesla is very embattled company, meaning everyone is gunning for them. Chances are are they will go through some major dips in both stock price and sales with ’n recovery that is not guaranteed. I personally have no problem investing in TESLA but I also have no problem if I lose my money because I believe in their Vision, Mission, their believes and their products. But I also will not invest money in them that I cannot afford to lose.

Is the Tesla company going to shut their business in the near future because of still no profit?

No, they are following their business plan, which is to grow rather than make money. You have to understand why they went into business. All corporations have the stated goal to maximize profits in order to get a high return on investment, ,except Tesla,. Tesla's vision statement and mission statement is to disrupt the carbon fuel auto industry and demonstrate the viability of all electric vehicles. It involved starting at the very high-end price models for several years, then high-end, then medium high-end (last several years), and then medium priced in the future, to prove a sustainable model, while scaling up production and improving battery technology, range, and average manufacturing cost. They are exactly where they expected to be [except for temporary pandemic volume], and that is why their stock price doubled in the last ten months.

Most of it is trapped in the form of experience in people's heads, or buried in books and papers that only experts can access. As a consequence most people don't have the knowledge they should, and don't have the time, connections, or skills to get to the knowledge they would have in an ideal world. Facebook's ,mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Zuckerberg says, “We’ve been focusing on making the world more open and connected…We have a responsibility to bring the world closer togethe” 2. Statistics In March of 2016 Adam D'Angelo stated[1] that- Quora had ,100 million, monthly active users worldwide As of the fourth quarter of 2017, Facebook had ,2.2 billion, monthly active users Both companies are on their own parallel lines of growth and visions, that are never going to cross and not to be compared as well. What is it like to interview at Tesla Motors for a manufacturing or vehicle engineering position?

A great experience. I was fortunate enough to be an intern in Tesla's Battery Design Engineering department this past summer ('14), and went through three phone interviews before I was accepted. The first phone interview was the standard initial screening with a member of HR. The HR interviewer had me talking about past internships, side projects, and hobbies that were covered in my resume and that I mentioned. It went smoothly, and I was cleared to move onto more technical interviews with the manager that would eventually become my team manager. Being a mechanical engineering student, they were not in depth technical questions. Rather, it was a conversation to check my understanding of certain concepts and problem solving processes. I don't remember all of the conversation, but he had me go in depth about a project I had worked on and explain some of the fundamentals. Somehow, I also cleared the second interview! An hour later, I got the email from the HR contact that a third and final interview with the department head was to be conducted as soon as possible. Tesla likes to move fast, and soon meant a short two hours after I had finished my second interview. I ditched my physics class to make it. This guy was tough. I later found out he was notorious for grilling interns and new hires during their final interviews. The third interview focused almost entirely on passion. A passion for electric technology. A passion for Tesla. A passion for their mission. And that was the most important part. Tesla would not be able to produce such brilliant works of engineering if we didn't all share the same vision. A decent engineer with passion often contributes more than a brilliant engineer who lacks a shared vision.

How did a small company like Tesla manage to pull off the best electric car?

It’s truly an amazing accomplishment; the result of many contributing factors not the least of which, in my opinion, was ,timing,. Tesla today is the result of a perfect storm, a confluence of people, technology, and events that came about at the same time and place. It all started with Elon Musk’s decision to emigrate to Canada from South Africa at the age of 17 with $2000 in his pocket. In 2002, at the age of 30 Musk received 165 million dollars from the sale of Paypal to Ebay. What did he do with that fortune? He invested all of it in two enterprises that 99% of the world thought was completely crazy. Half in a fledgling startup called Tesla Motors, and the other half in a company that Elon founded, SpaceX. No one had succeeded in creating a successful U.S. auto manufacturing company from scratch since 1925 when Walter Chrysler took over ailing Maxwell Motor Company to create Chrysler Corporation, now a part of FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles). Many have tried since including Tucker, Kaiser Frazer, and DeLorean. The last U.S. company to go public was Ford Motor Company in 1956. No one thought Tesla would succeed. A lot of people placed huge bets on that outcome. So far those bets have not paid off. One of the reasons that Tesla has succeeded since its inception in 2003, is that the company’s founders, Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, saw an opportunity that other auto manufacturers were overlooking (GM had recently discontinued making their EV1 electric vehicle and destroyed those already produced). Eberhard and Tarpenning envisioned an electric sports car, the Tesla Roadster, a fast, long range, fun to drive electric car aimed at more wealthy, environmentally concerned car enthusiasts. They needed an investor to fund the development, and they found one in Elon Musk at a time when venture capitalists were unimpressed with their plan. Elon was immediately interested, and bought in. His vision for the company went much further than Eberhard’s, however, and as the major stock holder, soon took control of the company. The timing of the Roadster’s success also hinged on technology. In particular, the development of the Li-ion battery. It turned out to have enough energy storage density to make electric cars practical. It was also a time when attention was being drawn to the enormous impact the internal combustion engine and the burning of fossil fuels was having on the production of greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming and climate change, a concern that continues to this day. The major auto companies had no interest in building electric cars. Nearly everyone thought Tesla was doomed from the start. It would have been too, if not for Musk’s vision, his money, and his friend J. B. Straubel’s connections to talent at Stanford University that made up the Tesla’s engineering team. They found a way to integrate thousands of 18650 Li-ion batteries to propel their sleek and powerful Roadster for a distance of 200 miles on a full charge. The Roadster was revealed to the world in 2006. They got orders for the Roadster from dozens of people at $100,000 a crack. Everybody who was anybody wanted on the list to get a Tesla. Again, timing was a huge factor in Tesla’s success with the Roadster. Computer hardware and software technology had advanced, and Tesla’s engineers brought the Silicon Valley culture of rapid prototyping, thinking outside the box, lean-and-mean engineering to bear on the problems Tesla faced getting the Roadster into production. And there were problems. Lots of them. After three changes of the CEO, and with the project in deep financial trouble, Elon took the reins himself. He expected employees to put their hearts and souls into helping the company succeed, and he demanded no less of himself. Mediocre performance and less than awesome results were not tolerated. Tesla became the home for many of the best and the brightest young engineers available, attracted by a common mission to change the very heart of the automotive industry to hasten the conversion to a sustainable energy future. Elon’s vision, intelligence, and determination were critical to keeping Tesla Motors going. Musk’s passion was clear, and few customers asked for their money back when things looked very dark. The company was running out of money despite Musk’s extraordinary efforts at cost control. The company was on the verge of bankruptcy, and would have gone under except for Musk’s dogged efforts to keep his company afloat. Through a combination of persuasiveness in attracting investor capital, and risking his dwindling share of the Paypal fortune, a critical funding deal came through on Christmas Eve 2008, hours before the company doors would have closed forever. Tesla Motors went on to manufacture 2,450 Roadsters through 2012. Tesla had overcome the first of several hurdles to become the world’s premiere electric car manufacturer. His extraordinary tolerance for risk was instrumental in Tesla’s survival. These events occurred at a time when the rest of the auto industry was paying little attention. They took no notice of this momentous milestone that would change the automotive industry forever. The economic recession of 2008 focused the auto industry as a whole on their own survival. GM declared bankruptcy in 2009, pulling out of the NUMMI joint venture with Toyota. A year later, Toyota sold their Fremont, CA auto factory to Tesla for $42 million dollars in 2010, an incredible bargain. The path forward remained open for Tesla to execute the next phase of Elon’s master plan: the Tesla Model S. Even companies like Daimler and Toyota who had invested in Tesla later walked away. The further success of the Model S, and later the Model X, allowed Tesla to undertake a goal that Elon had in mind from the very start: to design and build a mass market electric sedan. It had to attract enough customers to drive down production costs to where not only the well off could afford one, and still make a profit doing so. It was a goal no legacy auto maker was willing or able to do. They built electric cars to meet government emissions regulations (compliance cars). Most were sold at a loss. At best they were under powered, short range commuter cars with unattractive styling. Tesla’s Model 3 was something else, and it quickly attracted the interest of millions throughout the world. Tesla has sold 371,022 Model 3 cars through Q3 2019, many at the expense of traditional auto makers who have recently seen declines in sales of some of their best product lines, particularly in the small and midsize luxury category, but not limited to those. Their responses to Tesla’s effectiveness have been underwhelming so far, and there’s nothing to suggest that they will catch up to Tesla in the next 3 to 5 years, or even longer. What Tesla has done is undeniably remarkable. It could never have happened without the genius of Elon Musk. But if circumstances hadn’t been such as they were, if one thing hadn’t happened as it did, I doubt I’d be driving a Model 3 today.
