The new 2020 Honda City is bigger, longer and wider than the old generation. It’s only the boot capacity which has been reduced to 506 litres compared to earlier generation which one is having 510 litres. Last year, Maruti shifted sales of the Ciaz from regular Maruti Suzuki branded outlets to the more premium Nexa outlets. With that shift came a change in nomenclature - from Lxi/Vxi/Zxi to Delta, Sigma, and Alpha. The Ciaz S is based on the Alpha variant and includes sporty body kit. This includes a rear boot-lid spoiler, skirts in the front, side and rear and full-black interiors. All variants of the Ciaz get airbags, ABS and Isofix child seat restraints. Maruti claims it meets upcoming crash test norms that will be in force from October 2017. The Ciaz S variant comes with all-black interiors. There are no mechanical changes to the car. The petrol variant of the Ciaz is powered by a 1.4 litre petrol engine that puts out 92 bhp of power and 130 Nm torque with a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic. The diesel variant comes with a 1.3 litre diesel engine putting out 89 bhp and 200 Nm torque. This engine features a starter-generator system that provides some assistance to the motor during acceleration and shuts off the engine when stationary. This is what Maruti calls the smart-hybrid system. Which one is a better petrol car with fully loaded features and performance, a Honda City 2017 or a Verna 2017?

Honda has given a few upgrades to the 2017 City to keep it competitive. These new features bring it on par with all its competitors in its segment. But the City is the same car which was launch back in 2014 and the new 2017 City is the facelift version of the 2014 model. But, Honda has provided ample of features inside and few on the outside. However, the latest 2017 Hyundai Verna is an all-new product with new design inside and out with all new features. The new Verna boasts of a Super Body Structure. It uses advanced high strength steel (AHSS) in its construction, making the car more rigid and increased its crash worthiness levels too. The car has also become lighter, resulting in gains in performance and mileage. Engine, (Petrol) : Verna - 1.6-litre Dual VTVT City - 1.5-litre i-VTEC Power, : Verna – 121 BHP @ 6400 rpm City – 117 BHP @ 6600 rpm Torque, : Verna – 154 Nm @ 4850 rpm City – 130 Nm @ 4600 rpm The new Verna gets a 1.6-litre petrol, which is the highest displacement engine in its class. The Verna Petrol gets 121 bhp of peak power and 151 Nm of peak torque from its 4-cylinder 1.6-litre engine. The Honda City gets a 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 117 bhp and 145 Nm of torque from its 4-cylinder engine. I have driven both the cars and found that both have the similar power output but the Verna has more torque to offer and you have to downshift less in traffic conditions and while overtaking compared to the Honda City. The NVH levels in the Honda City is good but if you cross 80 kmph the car starts to filter in road and wind noise which is annoying. In Verna, NVH levels are very low and you can barely hear any noise filtering in the cabin. Now the steering feedback of the Verna has improved to a new level and also weights up in high speeds. In handling department I found both cars to be similar. While the suspension on the Verna is on the softer side which helps to soak out bumps and potholes brilliantly and on high speeds their is a little body roll but it will not effect the driving. The suspension on the Honda City is on the stiff side which is good but not great in soaking up every bumps and potholes. In high speeds it remains balanced and once you pass 120 kmph you will feel a little body roll. The width of the Verna is more compared to City, which results in seating three persons in the rear seat comfortable in Verna. The height of the City is more compared to Verna, which results in higher headroom for passengers upto 6 feet tall persons. On the paper City has the bigger boot space compared to Verna , but in real world both have the same kind of boot space to offer. The Verna has the bigger tank capacity than City, thus you can go a few more kilometres if driven light footed. Both of the cars offers similar features like optional leather interiors on the top of the line models and also gets rear AC vents. Two Airbags are standard in the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna, also get six airbags in the top of the line variants. The City has an additional feature which is the Wi-Fi support for internet browsing. That said, the big addition to the Hyundai Verna is the new front cooled and ventilated seats. This is a first in class feature for this segment and will be well appreciated considering the hot climate that we have almost through the year in India. Also gets rear sliding curtain, Smart trunk and ISOFIX child seat anchors. If I have to choose then I will definitely pick the Hyundai Verna over the Honda City. The new Verna has a definite price advantage. The new 2017 Hyundai Verna offers bigger , more powerful engines than Honda City. The interior materials used in Verna are of high quality which feels upmarket while in the interior of City it consists some parts which is of basic and hard plastics. (Do checkout yourself) The Honda service will cost you more because the full service intervals are shorter i.e: in every 6 months and spare parts availability in some cases are not quick. Whereas, Hyundai service intervals are of 12 months which indicates less maintenance required. The spare parts are cheap and easily available. Conclusion I would strongly recommend to go for the 2017 Hyundai Verna. Do take Test Drive and inspect the interior and exterior of both of the cars to find out the differences.
