By the best color, I assume that you mean in my opinion, well in that case in my humble opinion I go with the white body with a black roof. I Love going for the cool Stormtrooper look Tell me that doesn't look cool.
Have you ever owned a car that costs a lot to maintain?
My 2016 Mercedes Benz GLC 300 - black. I got this in late 2015 after totaling my 2009 Chevy Aveo. (Pic from google as my car is dirty right now, and buried in snow, 100% identical) Between scheduled maintenance’s, detailing, and other misc services - it comes between $5,000–7,000/year on average for the upkeep. If I ever decide to pre-book a year of maintenance in advance, it would cut some of that in half from their discount, but I never do. A large amount of that is spent on detailing. It’s a pretty nice car. Can put it in auto pilot and pretty much relax for hours on end providing the car never never needs to switch lanes. It stays in it, and drives itself, speeds up, slows down, all on it’s own using sensors all around the car. You could literally be an irresponsible driver and read a book for an entire trip as the car takes care of itself. A bit costly on gas right now. Easily can dump $60/day on it for gas when I am out and about for meetings. So I often switch to my Hyundai economy car when gas prices are high. I guess it depends on whom I am meeting with, and if I am golfing. My golf clubs fit nicely in there. But as I am realizing after a couple years, I could have bought more cars for the price the maintenance on this thing costs. Have you ever been treated differently because of the car you were driving?
My father was the eldest son of very poor Irish immigrants. As a result, he loved this country and when he managed to save for his first car it was made by Chevrolet. He absolutely was violently opposed to any type of non-American made cars. When I graduated with my Bachelors degree and was working my first full-time job which paid me more money than I ever made, I decided to trade in my Ford Maverick, which literally fell apart while I was driving it (the gear shift came off in my hands). I wanted to buy a used Porsche. My father absolutely flipped out. To appease him I bought a beautiful silver Chevy Camaro. My dad was so happy he would call me on a weekly basis to ask me how my car was doing. Then a friend bought a used 914 Porsche and I was so envious I was green. My friend offered to introduce me to a friend of a friend who could get me a great deal on a similar used 914 Porsche. I traded in my new silver Camaro and drove off in a bright orange 914 Porsche with black racing strips and a black convertible top. My dad was horrified and expressed his great disappointment in my decision to help destroy the US economy by purchasing a Porsche. On the other hand, every where I went in St. Louis, Missouri driving that bright orange Porsche got me tons of attention. Especially when I took the top off the car. All sorts of people of all ages would literally talk to me at stop lights, when I parked the car or even in parking lots. It was crazy. Back in St. Louis in those days it was rare to see a lot of Porsche vehicles of any kind. St. Louis was a very conservative town and had large GM plants in the suburbs. It was common to see Camaros or Firebirds, but not bright a orange Porsche driven by a 20s young woman. In retrospect, I was probably putting my self in constant danger driving around in that car, but at the time I was young and foolish. Eventually the car was completely destroyed by a drunk driver who hit it at 3 am while parked in front of my house. It couldn’t be saved. For awhile I drove a black 911 Porsche, but I didn’t receive any noticeable different treatment. My father was still upset with me that I continued to buy non-US cars, but no one talked to me while I was sitting in traffic, or in parking lots, about my Porsche. Over the years I switched for awhile to the Mazda RX-7s which I found fun to drive and was kinder to my bank account than my previous 914 or 911 Porsche. Finally in 1998 I bought another black Porsche. It was a brand new Boxster. It was an awesome car. People did stop and ask me about my Boxster, but the interest was different than the type of questions and comments I received about that first bright orange 214. My father had passed away by the time I bought my Porsche Boxster, which I kept until 2017. Luckily I didn’t have to disappoint him with my 3rd Porsche purchase. When I sold my last Porsche in 2017 (thank you ,Stan Hanks, for the referral) I decided not to buy another car. At the present time I don’t own a vehicle and use ride share if I need to go somewhere. My partner currently has a 2020 Mercedes Benz GLC 350e 4MATIC SUV which I can borrow if I wish, but I still prefer to do ride share over fighting Dallas traffic. Now if Mercedes Benz wanted to give me a 2020 G 550 SUV wagon to drive for Social Media and advertising/marketing purposes, I would spend every minute either driving or writing about that dream vehicle because I think they are incredibly iconic and gorgeous. In the meantime, I will never forget that orange 914 Porsche. I was definitely treated differently and it was a memorable car to drive and own. Best wishes to all.
Is it a better value to keep a Mercedes-Benz GLK 350 or get a GLC 43 AMG? My lease on the GLK is expiring. I can either buy it, or get a new lease. GLC 300, the replacement for GLK 350, is a 4 cylinder lower powered vehicle.
I’ll speak to your 2 new car options. They’re certainly different enough that you should test drive both but I’ll try to give you an idea of what to expect because both are very different than your GLK. The GLC is larger and you’ll notice it most in the second row leg room. The GLK350 is a 3.5L V6 with no turbo. The GLC300 is an i4 turbo with about 60 less hp than the GLK. That being said it has a much different feel than your current vehicle. It’s lighter and and will feel peppier in some ways although the extra muscle in the 350 can be felt once you’re up to speed and still have the pedal down. The AMG GLC43 is whole other animal. 120hp more than the 300 (and 60 more than your 3.5L) from a 3.0L V6 with 2 turbos. The power is just a small part of the equation. As an AMG model the 43 gets several other upgrades that give this car a much more performance-oriented feel. These include the following AMG-develeoped components: exhaust (which has a nice hum and pipes up with crackles and burbles) steering system performance 4Matic AWD with 70% rear bias selectable sport suspension There are also several visual distintives like black exterior trim details, chrome diamond grill, distinct exhaust tips, and unique interior details as well. At the end of the day it comes down to what you’re looking for but I don’t think there’s a wrong answer here. Good luck
