Does Infiniti make safe and reliable cars?

Yes, NISSAN -Infiniti are made with the same parts and on many production lines as Daimer-Mercedes Benz - since 2014. Nissan - Infinity and Mercedes Entered into Major Production Alliance in USA and Mexico Aguascalientes assembly plants. The Infiniti QX30 and Mercedes GLA-Class share a lot of the same parts and, besides their styling and badges, are essentially the same vehicle. Over the QX30's more athletic handling and modern design, some buyers may like the GLA-Class' conservative styling and badge. Buyers are also offered more customization choices with the GLA-Class, but it comes at a cost. Infiniti QX30 Unless you need the Mercedes-Benz badge, the Infiniti QX30 will appeal to more buyers – and it mostly comes down to the fact that it shares a lot of the same parts but costs less than the Mercedes GLA-Class. Infiniti, Americas, describes the company's performance in 2018. Indeed, Infiniti crossovers and SUVs accounted for two thirds of the brand's US sales last year. While the compact ,QX50,, midsize ,QX60, and full-size ,QX80, all posted strong year-over-year sales increases. Nissan is building 250,000 Mercedes-Benz 4-cylinder gasoline engines annually at its powertrain assembly plant in Decherd, Tenn. (The Decherd facility produce engines for Mercedes-Benz and Infiniti models.) The move helps Mercedes-Benz overcome instability in the Euro because the engines are going to put into the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, being built at Daimler’s vehicle plant in Vance Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Mercedes-Nissan engine building alliance began in 2014. The QX30 is based on the ,Mercedes,-,Benz, GLA, which arrived in the 2015 model ... The 2017 QX30 is the first ,Infiniti, with a single-screen version of .... Fisker electric ,SUV, teased, debuts in December Luxury June 14, 2019. Mercedes-Benz and Infiniti both have subcompact offerings that share a lot of the same parts. The Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class and Infiniti QX30 both have a hatchback body style with some extra ground clearance and available all-wheel-drive systems to tackle inclement weather. Both vehicles are awfully similar, so which one should you go with? That's what we're looking to answer in this comparison. Mercedes -Nissan Aguascaliente Mexico plants. Mercedes-Nissan Aguascalientes Mexico “This is the newest milestone in our pragmatic collaboration and our most significant project outside of Europe so far,” said the Nissan President in a statement made available to TorqueNews. “Localized capacity reduces exposure to foreign exchange rates while rapidly enabling a good business development in North America – a win-win for the Nissan-Infinity Alliance and Daimler.” The collaboration marks the first production of Mercedes-Benz engines in the North America Free Trade region. “In the context of our Mercedes-Benz 2020 growth strategy, we have decided that we will expand the production capacities required for this close to the customers. Through the strategic extension of our cooperation with Mercedes -p[-Renault-Nissan we can realize near-market engine production in the NAFTA region on attractive economic terms and make optimum use of synergies arising from the cooperation,” Zetsche, said in a news release. “Thus we are systematically broadening our manufacturing footprint in this important growth market.” Daimler and the Renault-Nissan Alliance launched their strategic collaboration in April 2010, including an equity exchange that gives the Renault-Nissan Alliance a 3.1 percent stake in Daimler and Daimler a combined 3.1 percent interest in Renault and Nissan. The collaboration began with these project pillars: * All-new entry-level city van project for Mercedes-Benz: * Powertrain cross-supply: The Alliance is supplying Daimler with compact three-cylinder gasoline engines to be used in smart and Twingo vehicles and four-cylinder diesel engines to be used in the jointly developed light commercial vehicle and in Mercedes-Benz’s next generation of premium compact cars. Daimler will supply Nissan and Infiniti with four- and six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines from the current and future engine portfolio as well as with the Mercedes automatic transmissions. 1-,Nissan and Mercedes Enter into Major Production Alliance 2-,New 2019 INFINITI Q60 3.0t LUXE RWD 3-,Infiniti QX30 vs. Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class 4-,https://www.edmunds.com/mercedes-benz/gla-class/

What will the new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA SUV cost?

Depends entirely on which model you choose, but the GLC is much better the extras are expensive but in my experience worth the price. Basic from around £40k, with bigger engine sunroof electric seats etc £45k on the road. You must get the 250d for the best performance unless you can afford the 3 litre.

Is a Mercedes Benz really worth the money?

Why not? It's Of course absolutely worth the money you pay for it. You will earn respect directly or indirectly when you own a sporty glossy smarty car that introduces itself to others. The way it enters the road makes everyone feel awestruck. Not only that they are rich and elagant in style (outside) but also makes comfier inside. Thanks to Germany for making and maintaining such a reputation in the market from the start of 20th century to 21st century almost in near completion of 100 successful years (Actually it is about 90 years). From the safety prespective, it is the first car to introduce ABS (Anti lock braking system). I would like to mention one more thing regarding it's uniqueness in naming car models. It is actually called as ,CAR NOMENCLATURE ,Here the list goes : C" indicates a coupe or cabriolet body style (for example, the CL and CLK models, though the C-Class is an exception, since it is also available as a sedan or station wagon). "D" indicates the vehicle is equipped with a diesel engine. "E" (for "Einspritzung") indicates the vehicle's engine is equipped with petrol ,fuel injection,. In most cases (the ,600, limousine and Mercedes E-Class being the exceptions), if neither "E" or "D" is present, the vehicle has a petrol engine with a carburettor. "G" was originally used for the ,Geländewagen, off-road vehicle, but is now applied to Mercedes SUVs in general (for example, the GLA and GLK). "K" was used in the 1930s, indicating a supercharger ("Kompressor") equipped engine. Two exceptions : the SSK and CLK, where K indicates "Kurz" (short-wheelbase). "L" indicates "Leicht" (lightweight) for sporting models, and "Lang" (long-wheelbase) for sedan models. "R" indicates "Rennen" (racing), used for racing cars (for example, the ,300SLR,). "S" Sonderklasse "Special class" for flagship models, including the S-Class, and the SL-Class, SLR McLaren and SLS sportscars. "T" indicates "Touring" and an estate (or station wagon) body style. Some models carry further designations indicating special features: ",4MATIC," indicates the vehicle is equipped with ,all-wheel-drive,. ",BlueTEC," indicates a diesel engine with ,selective catalytic reduction, exhaust aftertreatment. "BlueEFFICIENCY" indicates special fuel economy features (direct injection, ,start-stop system,, aerodynamic modifications, etc.) "CGI" (Charged Gasoline Injection) indicates ,direct gasoline injection,. "CDI" (Common-rail Direct Injection) indicates a ,common-rail, diesel engine. "Hybrid" indicates a petrol- or diesel-electric ,hybrid,. "NGT" indicates a natural gas-fueled engine. "Kompressor" indicates a ,supercharged, engine. "Turbo" indicates a ,turbocharged, engine, only used on A-, B-,E- and GLK-Class models. "AMG Line" indicates the interior or engine, depending which car, has been fitted with the luxuries of their AMG sports cars The current models that are available in India are : Mercedes Benz A class ₹28 lakh 2. Mercedes Benz B class ₹31 lakhs 3. Mercedes Benz CLA class ₹50 lakhs 4. Mercedes Benz GLA class ₹ 40 lakhs 5. Mercedes Benz C class ₹50 lakhs 6. Mercedes Benz GLC class ₹54 lakhs 7. Mercedes Benz E class ₹79 lakhs 8. Mercedes Benz AMG GT ₹1 Crore 9. Mercedes Benz G class ₹ 2 crore 10. Mercedes Benz S class cabriolet ₹ 2.27 crore 11. Mercedes Benz S class ₹11 crore 12. Mercedes Benz GLS ₹60 lakhs 13. Mercedes Benz GL class ₹ 2 crore 14. Mercedes Benz CLS class ₹78lakhs 15. Mercedes Benz SLC class ₹79 lakhs 16. Mercedes Benz GLA 45 AMG ₹73 lakhs 17. Mercedes Benz GLE class ₹90 lakhs And Benz is capable of delivering uncompromising quality, finish, performance, comfort, safety and what not that everyone’s eyes will glow like a star. NOTE : Not only rich can afford to buy this premium and prestigious car but also the trend is slowly shifting that even an upper middle class is also able to afford by paying regular EMIs….

What are the secrets in a car which only an automobile engineer knows?

EDIT: See the bottom for some more… Some of these have been touched on already, but here’s a few: See that PM schedule in the owner’s manual? Follow it. It’s there for a reason. For that matter, RTFM. So many automobile buyers in the US never read the book that comes with their car. Sure, there’s a lot of silly-to-an-experienced-driver stuff in there, but, even though I’ve got over 40 years in the auto business in some way, shape, or form, I just learned something new today on the rental car I’m driving while my truck is being repaired after a nice lady pulled out from a side street and ran into the side of it: There’s a special button on the HVAC controls of this car that sends the air through the cabin air filter for about 3 minutes, then reverts to regular operation. It has a pictogram on it that I just didn’t recognize, so I looked it up in the manual. Now I know. Yep, unless something else is specified for your car or truck, running regular unleaded is just fine. All the major suppliers use the same basic mix of additives anyway, just under different trade names, and a lot of times, the base gasoline at, say, an Exxon store came from the same terminal, same tank farm, same pipeline as the base gasoline at the Chevron down the street, it just got the Exxon additive pack when it was put into the tanker truck for delivery to the station instead of the Chevron additive pack. This is not always 100% the case, of course, but in many parts of the country, especially areas away from refineries and with distribution terminals fed by pipeline, it’s certainly the case. Modern synthetic oils can indeed have long change intervals. I personally wouldn’t go 25k miles between changes, but there are premium cars (BMW, Mercedes, etc.) out there with oil life algorithms in their computers that, under the right usage pattern, will go 15k miles before lighting the oil change indicator. I’d be hesitant to go longer than that unless you’re sure your engine isn’t a sludge factory like the Nissan VQ-series V6 engines tend to be. There are others (Toyota and GM have had certain engine families notorious for sludge production even with frequent quality oil changes), so do a bit of research on yours to see what other owners and service techs are reporting. When I was in the Detroit area, I was often asked if I knew why Big Oil and Big Auto had suppressed some magic technology that would let cars get stupid-high fuel mileage (such as the “100 mpg Fish Carburetor”) or last forever… the answer was always “Oh, I was given custody of those plans after I passed my initiation. I’m just waiting for the right price to release them to the public.” Yes, sarcasm. The truth is that engineering departments at all automakers have specialists in areas like fuels and lubricants who inevitably keep a “fool file” of various snake oil additives and technologies that the aftermarket keeps foisting on the gullible public. There’s one prominent “engine treatment” that, chemically, is nearly identical to Conoco’s “Germ Treated” motor oil form the 1910s (their TV infomercials feature an engine “drained of oil” and then the exposed valvetrain is sprayed with a fire hose or has sand poured on it — but if you look closely, there’s an oil line that feeds into the engine from the demonstration trailer’s enclosed portion - and that particular 1950s-designed I6 truck engine can certainly keep running against no load with the valvetrain covered in beach sand - talk to me again if you pump a sand slurry into the oiling system and clog up the feed passages for the main bearings, but they don’t do that). Another wants you to think that PTFE (aka Teflon) will magically bond to certain oily internal engine parts if you pour an emulsion containing PTFE particles into your crankcase, and those same particles will slide over other engine parts, reducing friction and wear. Given that getting PTFE to adhere to a cookie sheet in a factory setting is a somewhat involved process involving some serious cleaning and surface prep, you can see why that stuff ended up in the fool file. Also, given the pressure automakers are under to improve fuel economy and emissions, with hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars at stake, doesn’t it make sense that if something like that worked, it’d be done from the factory so the automaker could take advantage of those fuel economy and emissions benefits? That they’re not in use by *ANY* OEM tells you how effective they really aren’t. So, as someone else has said, save your money for scheduled oil and filter changes with quality products, and don’t bother with additives. No, removing the thermostat won’t make your engine run cooler. It’ll just make it take longer to get to operating temperature. The “thermostat” is not really a thermostat like you have on the wall in your house. It’s a “thermally-controlled coolant flow valve” that diverts coolant to a bypass when closed and sends it to the radiator when open. The actual coolant temperature will depend on: ambient temperature, engine load and vehicle speed. Along those lines: most “gauges” in US-market cars are glorified idiot lights. A temperature gauge or an oil pressure gauge has a HUGE flat spot in its response curve where it just sits at the center of the “NORMAL” range. The reason for this is that marketing does focus groups where potential buyers say they want gauges instead of idiot lights, but when you present them with a gauge that accurately tracks a transient value - one that changes under normal vehicle operation - like coolant temp or oil pressure, they bring the car back to the dealer for warranty service because “something is wrong: the temp gauge moves”. Well, duh, it’s going to when you transition from stop-and-go city traffic with no airflow through the radiator to driving 70 mph on the highway with all the airflow through the radiator. And the engine oil pressure will vary with temperature and engine speed. So the automakers put these flat spots into the gauges: they come up to the middle of “NORMAL” quickly, then sit there until something goes horribly wrong. Buyers get the “gauges” they want, and automakers get rid of a whole bunch of expensive warranty claims that have no basis in any real problem other than a lack of owner understanding of how their car really works. There’s a lot more, but this has gone on long enough for now. ,EDIT: Here’s some more: Often the “guts” or basic building blocks of a car are shared among different models in the same brand, and even among different brands under the same parent company. And there are even weirder examples. On the basic side, your Lexus ES350 is a Toyota Camry with a $15k higher price tag, a little different sheet metal on the outside, and fancier stuff inside. The Toyota Avalon is a slightly larger Camry. The Lexus RX and the Toyota Highlander are essentially the same underneath. There are some Lexus models with no Toyota equivalent in the US, but they’re sold as Toyotas in the home market. In the weird-but-understandable-if-you-know-the-history category, the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Mercedes GL class (formerly M-class) share basic platform pieces, but there’s not really a lot that would interchange between them. Meanwhile, the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Challenger are on a platform that’s basically a cost-reduced version of a 2-generation-old Mercedes E-Class. If you remember when Chrysler was DaimlerChrysler (old joke: “How do you say ‘DaimlerChrysler’ in German? ‘Daimler’. The ‘Chrysler’ is silent), this makes sense. What doesn’t is the Infiniti QX30 sharing a platform and powertrain with the Mercedes-Benz GLA. Infiniti is Nissan’s premium brand (think Lexus to Nissan’s Toyota) in the US market, but Nissan is controlled by Renault. It’s basically just a business arrangement (kinda like how Daimler’s AMG hot-rod division is supplying engines and other bits to Aston Martin these days: the new A-M Vantage carries a slightly different version of the AMG 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that resides in the Mercedes-AMG GT), but at least the two don’t share any outer sheetmetal, so it’s not just a simple “badge-engineering” job. There are a handful of automotive component suppliers that, if they were to go under, would take significant portions of the global auto industry with them. Robert Bosch is a prime example of this. They supply to just about everyone. Likewise Nippondenso (or Denso): Denso goes down, it takes Japan, Inc. with it, starting with Toyota. There are other, lesser-known names that you won’t find at the local auto parts store: Tower International makes frames for most of the pickup trucks sold in North America, for an example. Dana has divisions making everything from axle assemblies to transmission cooler lines. Borg Warner makes a bewildering variety of components. These are just a few examples. This was a real danger in 2008–2009: many suppliers followed GM and Chrysler into Chapter 11 Bankruptcy reorganization (Tower was one). Ford avoided Chapter 11 in the 2008–2009 unpleasantness because then-CEO Allan Mullally essentially mortgaged every piece of company property as collateral for private credit lines. At the time, I thought he was nuts, but it proved to be a shrewd move as Ford didn’t need a bailout under TARP or TARP 2: Electric Boogaloo. They *did* take a grant from the Feds for alternate-fuel/energy vehicle development, but that was very different from the TARP loans that kept GM and Chrysler from going defunct and taking pretty much the rest of the industry with them (as supplier could bring down the automakers, so losing two major automakers would bring down the supplier base to a point where surviving automakers would be hard pressed to get components to build cars and trucks). And by “industry”, I don’t mean just North America, but globally. The only truly British-owned automobile company left is Morgan. TVR is being revived as an British-owned brand, but I don’t think they’ve started production yet. Rolls-Royce? BMW. Bentley? Volkswagen Group. MINI? BMW. Land Rover and Jaguar? TATA of India. Aston Martin? Mixture of American and Kuwaiti investment firms. The MG brand is owned by a Chinese company. Many of the “imported” cars sold in the US are in fact assembled here. “Foreign” companies with US production facilities include: Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Daimler-Benz, Hyundai/KIA, BMW, Volkswagen. Some of these plants (notably BMW’s and Daimler-Benz’s) export some of their production back to Europe and other parts of the world. Both Mazda and Mitsubishi used to have US plants as well, but Mazda’s was sold to Ford, and Mitsubishi closed theirs. Toyota, Honda, and others (including US brands) also have production facilities in Canada that supply the US market. Likewise Mexico. GM and Ford have some joint-venture products, notably automatic transmissions. Given the often-bitter rivalry between the two, this may seem surprising, but it’s just one of those economic things. Way back in the ‘60s, Chrysler licensed Ford’s self-adjusting drum brake design because they didn’t have one and apparently couldn’t come up with a design of their own that didn’t infringe on Ford’s or just didn’t work right. Speaking of Chrysler, while what’s regarded as the “1st generation” Hemi engines in the 1950s were outwardly similar, there were very few interchangeable parts between the Chrysler, Dodge, and DeSoto versions. The “2nd generation” Hemi, the famous 426 of the ’60s and very early ‘70s, was just one engine design, used in both Dodge and Plymouth cars. A highly-modified version of this engine still powers Top Fuel and Fuel Funny Car drag racers to this day, making in excess of 10,000 horsepower for about 4 seconds at a time, after which the engine is torn down and rebuilt before the next pass. Including warm-up and burnout run time, mean run time between rebuilds is about 3 minutes. The “3rd Generation” Hemi debuted in 2002 and is still in production today, available in Dodge/Ram pickups, Chrysler 300s, and Dodge Chargers and Challengers. The “Hellcat” version makes 707 horsepower, while the “Demon” version makes 840 horsepower on 100-octane racing gas and about 805 horsepower on 93-octane pump premium. 1965–1970 Shelby Mustangs are titled under their Shelby VINs, but the cars also have a Ford VIN. One way of verifying whether or not a car you’ve found is a real Shelby is to take a rubbing of the Ford VIN from at least 2 of the 3 places it’s found on the car and sending it to the Shelby American Automobile Club, which has the records of which Ford VIN corresponds to which Shelby VIN. They will tell you if it’s correct or not, but if it’s not, they won’t tell you which Ford VIN that Shelby VIN is supposed to have. SAAC also keeps a very complete registry of Shelby cars, and there are a few cases where a Shelby Mustang was crashed, the Shelby mechanicals and VIN were transplanted to another Mustang shell, and, sometime later, the original shell was rebuilt as a Shelby with the Shelby VIN (which typically would be found on a title for said shell). In this sort of circumstance, SAAC notes that the former car was rebodied, while the latter car was re-engined. Both will appear in the Registry. Along those lines, when Carroll Shelby got a heart transplant from a Las Vegas-area bartender who was killed in some sort of crash, there was some discussion in SAAC circles about whether Shelby was re-engined or the bartender was re-bodied. Okay, I’m getting more into folklore now, so I’m going to call it a night. Hope y’all enjoy this.

What do Mercedes model numbers (and letters) mean?

In 2015, Mercedes-Benz changed and simplified its nomenclature. But first, you should understand their core models, which is consistent through different range and category. They are A, B, C, E, and S. Let’s understand how this translates as per type of cars: Hatchbacks:, A- Class and B- Class Sedans:, C- Class = Comfort Sedan E- Class = Executive Sedan S- Class = Luxury Sedan SUVs:, They use the GL prefix in a similar manner. GLA, GLC, GLE, GLS Coupe-, They use CL prefix for the 4-door coupe CLA and CLS Roadsters:, Using SL prefix for the names SL and SLC Understood so far? Every car has its AMG line which is highest spec car for that variant. However, they use 3 digits for Mercedes-Benz cars and 2 for Mercedes-AMG cars. Now, understand that AMG-cars are different from the AMG line. For example, Mercedes-Benz C-Class 220d where d represents diesel Mercedes-Benz C 300 d (AMG-line, highest spec for the car) Mercedes-AMG C43 4MATIC Coupe (AMG vehicle) Last but not the least, there is drive system nomenclature which is: c- compressed natural gas d- diesel e- electric f- fuel cell h- hybrid and 4MATIC stands for 4-wheel drive.

What is the difference between the Mercedes Benz GLA, GLB, and GLC?

I’ve seen a lot of people deride Mercedes Benz for their naming convention (which is still fairly recent), but I actually love it. It’s simple and straightforward: The letters A,B,C,E, and S all denote ‘size’. With the sedans, there is no other letter. The A-Class hatchback is the smallest, going all the way to the crown jewel, the S-Class sedan. An SL preceding the A,B,C,E or S indicates a roadster/convertible. A GL indicates an SUV. The only vehicle to which none of this applies is the G-Class, which is a mechanical beast of its own. The prefix CL is a weird one. Originally, it was a standalone model, the CL grand-tourer. Not anymore. The CLA and CLS are so-called ‘gran coupes’. So, in short, the GLA, GLB, and GLC are all SUVs. Just different sizes, with the A being the smallest, going up to the full-size GLS. Now, this naming system doesn’t apply to the entire Mercedes lineup. There’s, the CL (discontinued grand-tourer), SL (the largest SL, which would be SLS, but the SLS is a discontinued supercar), V-Class (vans), X-Class (just one truck. one size), and the AMG GT (a sedan GT63, and a sport/supercar). However, it still helps to know this system, so that whenever you hear a name, you know immediately what class and size it is. Oh, and numbers - E320, C45, S500, etc. - used to denote engine sizes. 320 is a 3.2 liter V6 for example. The rules for the numbers are not really applicable anymore, what with Mercedes Benz going the downsizing route. However, you can still make an educated guess about the engine. 320 can only be a six-cylinder, a 200 can only be a four-cylinder, or a 500 can only be a V8, for example. One last group is EQ. Those are the new electric models. So far, there’s only the EQC (C-size electric SUV) and EQV (electric van).

What if a Start-up created a Luxury Electric vehicle in India by 2025, a Top End Luxury EV? How do you think it will perform considering the market predictions for 2025?

I wonder how much can a start-up convince the buyers that their car is truly a luxury one, which can compete German and British marquees, who’ve established themselves for 100s of years now. The problem doesn’t end there. The Porsche Taycan is a good step towards a luxury EV. So is BMW’s i4. But that’s only so because BMW and Porsche (with Panamera And cayenne) have proven to be good Luxury manufacturers. How can a startup prove so, I’m yet to see. The thing is, even if a good EV is launched, which is say, sub-20L and has 400+km range, people who are looking for a luxury car won’t buy it. Because luxury lies is the badge. That’s what the perception in India is. The Skoda octavia and Audi A4 are nearly the same car in terms of body and powertrain. Only the interior and badge are different. Still, Audi remains a luxury car, and Skoda, still just a premium sedan. One more thing. People already own Teslas in India. Obviously imported ones. They cost them anywhere between 1–2 crore due to high import duties. And installation of the charger at their home. But that number is way less than the number of imported luxury cars from “luxury companies” even in the same price range. You will find a lot of imported cars in 1–2 crore price bracket. The problem for Luxury EVs isn’t their price or specs. Someone might already have Mercedes and BMWs in their garage and still import a Tesla just for city use alone. And then proceed to use their ICE cars on highways or trips. Because they can afford it anyway. Do you really think that someone having the money to buy a top end luxury car has only a single car? If we talk about sub Crore EVs like Hyundai Kona, MG ZSEV or Nexon EV, they all belong to brands which millionaires wouldn’t even buy in their dreams. Common brands. Which common middle class people buy. That’s why a Hyundai Tucson or Honda CRV doesn’t sell well despite being better specced than an Entry level BMW X1 or Benz GLA class. It’s the brand which matters. Had Mercedes Benz GLA or X1 been an EV with the exact same specs as say the Kona or ZSEV, I am pretty sure it would’ve sold better than the Kona and ZSEV respectively, although lesser than ICE X1 or ICE GLA. So the ultimate conclusion is, that for Indians, powertrain doesn’t matter. If they have the money, they’ll even buy a BMW EV or Mercedes EV, just because of the “luxury brand”. And they won’t buy an EV if it’s a mainstream middle class brand. We shall see it for ourselves in the future, when eventually the luxury brands introduce more and more EVs.

How many Mercedes classes are there?

So this will be fun. Since Mercedes started w/ cars or sedans, they come in these guise:- A-class - sub-compact, city car B-class - city car, but slightly bigger dimension for families in mind. C-class compact car E-Class Executive Car S-Class - Full Size Car - originally called Sondler Klasse, meaning special class So Coupe versions have the Coupe at the end of the class name, like S-class Coupe, E-class Coupe Then, they made the 4 door version of the coupe silhouette, and they give the CL prefix to all the sedan classes. So right now it’s CLA-class - 4-door coupe version of the A-class sedan CL-class - OG luxury transportation device. Basically an S-class coupe. rebranded to S-class coupe. CLA-class - 4 door coupe version of the A-class CLC-class - suppose to be a 4 door coupe version of the C-class, they didn’t use this name anymore. it was available a while ago as a cross between a C-class coupe and a hatchback, but it didn’t sell very well. CLS-class - 4 door coupe version of the S-class coupe. (it’s based on the E-class chassis, but the name is marketing i guess) They also produce a roadster in their line up. A 2-door coupe w/ a retractable roof. This line has a SL-prefix. SLC - the small, compact roadster SL - the original roadster. soon the be died off due to cannibalization from the S-class coupe (which IMHO is a superior product) So, for the SUV range, it started w/ the G-wagon, or the German would call it Gelandewagen. Originally created for the West German Army during the cold war, the truck was turned into a civilian version and the G-class is born. Just like how they added CL- prefix to 4-door version of the coupe, they added GL- prefix to the range of SUV. G-class - the OG off-roader. Now a superlux cruiser on the jungles of Beverly Hills and deserts of Dubai. GLA-class - Compact, city SUV GLB-class - recently launched, suppose to be the smaller brother version of the GLE and GLS GLC-class - compact / crossover version of the SUV GLE-class - mid-size SUV GLS-class - full-size SUV. this thing is huge and fully capable for off roading. It was meant to be the flagship in the SUV line-up and to replace the G-wagen, however, people still love that boxy 70s design SUV. And there’s always the odd-man out. the Van. It used to be a different division, now it’s under the passenger market and it’s called:- V-class - The van. really the odd man out. Electrification is the future and Mercedes is already planning to go with it. Currently, pure battery electric vehicles have the EQ-class moniker. In the current and near future line up:- EQA - BEV crossover SUV. Uses the same platform as the GLA / A-class. EQB - BEV SUV based on the GLB platform. EQC - BEV SUV. Slightly bigger than a GLC but smaller than a GLE. EQV - BEV Van. Based on the V-class platform. EQS - BEV Car. Completely new platform, Mercedes take on the S-class of EV. Of course, Mercedes has 2 major subsidiaries that up rate their series productions car to cater to 2 distinctive market: luxury-orientated and performance-orientated. The performance division is called AMG comes from the initials of the 2 founders and the place where they started the their first modified mercedes. Before this, they have their badges slightly different in terms of numbering. Like the normal Mercedes has 3 digit numbering which indicates their engine size (now power index) like E200, of S450, but AMG version has only 2 digits like the E43 or S63. Previously, they always build cars from series production, but recently, they are given a free hand to create a sports car from the ground up AMG-GT - Mercedes-AMG version of the sports car. build from the ground up. The luxury division is called Maybach (pronounced my-bak) to indicate updated luxury addition like bespoke finishing & colors, increased sound proofing. Currently, most of the unit offering is on changes on the S-class. They have a stretched version of the S-class including a super-stretched version called the Pullman Normal Version Pullman version The numbering sequence is different as they are using the 6 in the middle instead of the 0 or 5 in the series productions. Example: The normal S-class is S450, S500, S550, but the Maybach versions currently are S560 Furthermore, to differentiate their branding, their names has been slightly altered to reflect their orientation:- Mercedes-Benz - series / normal production. ie Mercedes-Benz S550 Mercedes-AMG - performance update. ie Mercedes-AMG S63 Mercedes-Mayback - luxury updates. ie Mercedes-Maybach S560 Of course, once in a while, Mercedes would product a halo product w/ names that does line up w/ anything on their series production. Mercedes SLR - collaboration with McLaren to create a supercar in the early 2000s Mercedes SLS - gullwing style doors. a homage to their famous SL300 back in the 50s/60s Mercedes Project One - yet to be release supercar that is basically a modified F1 car Mercedes also made buses, trucks, tractors and specialized vehicle like the unimog but they are in a different division. So specialized that market is that they rebrand into Daimler trucks to differentiate with Mercedes. So yes, Mercedes is a huge brand w/ many versions of the car. Hope this will satisfy your curiosity. Update: 68k views. Thank you!!

What do the letters in the Mercedes-Benz car model names signify? What is the significance of the different naming schemes? What does a 2 letter model name indicate?

The bases are the letters: A Class: for the hatchbacks. C Class: mid-sized luxury sedans (lowest trims). E Class: larger luxury sedans. S Class: luxury flagship of the brand. Then you have the ‘G’ which is the original version of the SUV. Add an ‘L’ to that ‘G’ (which I think stands for ‘Large’. Which creates the SUVs of those versions of cars, which start with GL. Such as the GLC Class (SUV version of the C Class), GLE, GLA, etc… In 2016 they created new cars to expand the family, introducing the S Class Coupe, GLE Coupe, GLC Coupe, E Class Coupe, and so on… They have the four door coupe versions such as the CLS and CLA. I see the CL as “Large Coupe” xD. You also have the 4Matic that can be applied to all these cars, 4Matic means four-wheel drive. You have the Maybach which is like the King S Class that competes with the Rolls Royce Phantom and whatever Bentley’s flagship is. You have AMG versions of all these models, they’re the powerful sporty versions of them. There is the AMG Line that has certain touches of the actual AMG Brand, but not the power. You have Brabus, it’s like a flashy version of their normal S Classes and G Classes. You have an ‘e’ that stands for electric, or d for diesel. Then you have the numbers beside these names, for example there is a C180, E250, S550, S600, G63, GLE4OO, etc… These stand for the Engine capacity or something, a 180 means a 1.8 Litre Engine, or 1800cc. 550 means 5.5 aka 5500cc, and so on. Usually the C ranges from 180 to 300, then jumps to the 43, 450 and 63 which are all AMG models. The S (at least in The Middle East) has 400, 500, 550, 600. The S Class Maybach is either 550 or 600. The AMGs are 63 or 65. A = 1 Series. C = 3 Series. C Coupe = 4 Series. E = 5 Series. E Coupe = 6 Series. S = 7 Series. S Coupe = Upcoming 8 Series. 4Matic = xDrive. 2WD = iDrive. CL = Grancoupe. GL = X (so X4, X6, etc). Brabus = Alpina. Maybach = Phantom. AMG = M. AMG Line = M Sport. And so on. The 3 German rivals + Lexus have similar naming styles. This is why you sometimes find a single car named something like: Mercedes GLE63 Class Coupe AMG. Or W222 Mercedes S600 Class Maybach 4Matic. Instead of a simple Honda Accord or something. I’m sure I made some minor mistakes and forgot to mention a few names, but reading this will allow you to understand the naming system more than most car guys around.
