I drive a 2017 Renault Fluence Is it worth the price? Yes, and then some. Why? It’s a compact/C-Segment car, but I bought it at subcompact/B-segment price because Renault Malaysia was clearing stock. Plus I enjoy free maintenance for 5 years/100,000km (whichever comes first). I get all the creature comforts I can enjoy in a car for less than my peers who were buying Honda Civics/Toyota Corollas. With Renault not being a popular brand here in Malaysia, I stand out more than those driving Civics/Corollas. I don’t have to worry about parts - the engine is the same one used in the Nissan X-Trail/Nissan Teana, which is fairly common here in Malaysia. I don’t really have to bear the brunt of depreciation, because remember - I bought it at a much lower price!

What's a recommendation for a chartered car from Bangkok to Hua Hin?
Your answer required involves car charter thus I presume you want privacy, a driver and comfort. I also presume budget will cover. Here are some options. The most cost effective and cheapest way is take a taxi. Taxis in Bangkok can be hired for THB1500 a day and out to Hua Hin allow THB2-2500. Most taxis are in gas thus the fuel cost is very low. I suggest look for a new taxi's and offer the driver THB2,500 and make sure he has water or even a coke for the trip. Offer to feed him or give him THB100 for his lunch. He will probably stop on the way down for a 'comfort' stop thus buy him a drink then. You can hire cars from hotels - luxury - and to Hua Hin. Expect to pay around THB 6,000 (about USD180). These are normally (minimum) Nissan Teana and most are Mercedes or luxury vans. Allow 3 hours for the drive.
What are the pros and cons of buying used luxury cars for 15lakhs instead of buying a Honda City?
O the upgrade dilemma. The wisest thing would be to get a 15 lakh honda city slightly used- 6–12 months and current to 1 yr old model year car at ~25–35% less price. Just saw a 2018 march white vx petrol(14lakh in my city) and 2000 km on board at 10.5 lakhs asking . Theres definitely some scope for negotiations. There are plenty such deals out there. If you are okay with used cars, why not go this route. Best of both worlds. Thinking of more luxurious model for 15 lakh, i ll compare it with usage and reliability of a new honda city. Few cars come close to honda city in terms of reliability, service, refinement and resale values few years down the road . A nee car is mostly maintenance free for first 3 to 5 years after which, smaller things may start giving up. Though honda is least likely to give you those headaches when compared to the cars 1or 2 segment above . Thus, cars older than 3 years are out. Cars known to guzzle gas are out. Cars known to be depreciation disaster are out. At a budget of 15 lakhs This leaves the germans and the Brit out barring their entry level cars like a class or cla etc. You are only left with Skoda ocatvias, vw Jetta, nissan teanas( whats that?) Higher trims of corolla, a and b class mercs ( who fancies em anyway) audi a3 ( a car the size of Vento). List ends for cars. Of the SUVs, you d get endeavour , kodiaq (and that vw suv in same range) and pajero sport. Anything costlier and you d have to get an older model. Not recommended. Again you can add legendary toyota fortuner and camry to that list but they will have to be older ones to fit your budget. Of the above, i recommend corolla , Camry and fortuner and pajero sport coz they d hold their value as good if not better than a city and would be pretty solid in reliability. Everything else would be a compromise on some factors in lieu of luxury and image. Barring corolla and Camry, none other would be equally luqurious as city though. You can however get a 3 year old city at half price and wait your time to get a used 3 series 2 3 years down the line if driving is your thing. Luxury cars evolve fast. And the market lower segments copy them faster. The 2017 honda city will have most features your 2012 bmw would have. Now, if you wish to have a luxury car like c class or 3 series in 15 lakhs, you ll get the previous generation model which were last update around 2010 . To get a current model 3 or c, which would set you back by 20 to 25 lakhs upfront, keep in mind theywould depreciate more than 15 lakh within next 5 years or less. You d better buy a city and budget 10 lakh for an old luxury car if 25 lakhs+ is your budget. Most people get into this dilemma because in their mind they compare a brand new city with a brand new beemer or Merc. But you must realize that a 2010 3 series isn't same as a 2018 3. Nor is it a 2018 city. Most luxury cars was just jacked up in price to half a segment above by their manufacturers to make way for a more entry level car . In case of Merc they did this when they priced c class to e class territories to make way for a b and cla class. For beemer it was x1 which eventually got costlier. For audi it was a3 pushing a4 prices up. Finally if you are willing to compromise, a 4yr old cla class maybe had within your budget. But thats limiting your choice extremely. With that cramped claustrophobic rear seat, only your chauffeur would be privy to german luxury not you the sethji.

What is your advice for a first-time car buyer in college? I’m out of state, so I will need to go long distances at least a few times a year.
This is going to be long. Doesn't matter what anyone says finally you'll have to come down to two/ three things, one your budget, two a trust worthy advisor and three a reputed and reliable seller or dealer. Try to put down a reasonably good amount for a sufficiently good car. Find a good garage, and also a trustworthy dealership, offering guarantee and warranty, and a free service or two.(I'm assuming a second hand car) get acquainted with both, and before finalising/sealing and paying the amount have the car vetted at the garage or by the mechanic. What make year or type is your personal choice. The best option would be for a car that's low on maintenance. Economical to operate that is easy on the gas and doesn't need frequent trips to the garage, and have regular periodic check ups. A good car to buy would be a “C” class at least, (as in Toyota Corolla, Yaris, Nissan Teana, Sunny, Honda Civic, C 220 Merc or BMW 3 series or equivalent ), as it would be both more stable and economical make sure tyres are all matching same make and configu —ration all weather tyres, and amount of tread, it could mean risky response in bad weather, snow and wet/rainy conditions.
